School Project for Crohns disease

Hello,

My name is Christine and for my anatomy class each student is diagnosed with a different chronic condition. I was diagnosed with Crohn's. I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their battle with Crohn's with me so I could quote you in my school paper. If you do not wish to share any information I completely understand. I simply want to have stronger grasp on different Crohn's patients lives.

Perhaps if you could share us your story we could share ours. Most people balk at someone just starting on here and asking personal stuff. Maybe you could have a survey , there have been many. Some people also have blogs. Please join our community and we can give you our experiences.

What kind of paper do you need to write? Maybe that can help us sharing appropriate infos with you. Otherwise, our experiences are really different from one another and there is a lot involved. Are you looking for symptoms we have, for the psychological impacts, for the lifestyle modifications we need to consider, etc. etc?

I agree. I don't think too many people would be willing to give their life story. In your intro I kind of got the impression your teacher assigned an illness and each student has to study the disease. We are no different then "normal" people, we just have different ways about going about doing something. If you want to learn about us, check out the jobs people post about having and how successful you can be and it shows the people on here are hard workers and dedicated people that can still live a normal life.

Yeah, I don't want to be unhelpful... I get that this is for educational purposes.
But I don't like the sound of that assignment! How is anyone really going to understand being 'diagnosed' when they havn't been!
If I was sat in that class listening to someone talk about crohn's who hasn't really got it....
I just hope the teacher was careful about which diseases were picked!
Why don't you look for research that has been done on how IBD impacts lives? I know there is stuff out there. For symptoms and treatments, there is a lot of stuff out there on the net.

Yeah you're right. To me, nobody could ever give an accurate speech on people with crohns. It would be like me trying to say cancer patients do this, cancer patients do that. Sure you can do research, but there's really only so much you will ever know.

I kind of took your post as degrading Christine. Like your teacher wants you to study us, and you said you want us to give some quotes just gives the impression you don't really care, you just want the marks. I'm sorry, re-reading that actually makes me sound like quite an ass.

Crohn's is a very personal disease, and for most people (like myself) I find it to be embarassing sometimes as some people are so judgemental of it. I don't think it's something that could have been prevented, and in your project I think you should stress that there is no cure. Some things I would do research on is to why places like Africa and other much less developed countries DO NOT have crohns, yet places like Canada, the US, and UK are clearly well developed countries yet we got stuck with this disease.

I'll tell you what, if you do some research and come back and fill us in with the info you have found, and maybe prepare some questions I would be willing to help you, and I'm sure others would too but personally I would like to see that you have done your end and have found some research yourself.

I'd be willing to help you if you had questions or anything. I have a very long story about how they knew what it was but wouldn;t treat it so I don;t wan to go into details about it but if you had questions about medicine, how long I went undignosed, what I went through, what it feels like ect then I'd be ok with answering them for you. Just take a little time, do some research then come back for answers to any questions you need answered.

Since this disease is very personal and somewhat embarrassing (Ok REALLY embarrassing!) I doubt a lot of people will cough up a lifetime full of pooping their pants in public and tell you how much daily pain their in or exactly how many pills a day they take. It's a disease than no one can really understand without having the disease...good luck
