Hi, as a quick summary to see if this may be appropriate for you ...
I was diagnosed with Crohn's after suspected appendicitis back in 1994. I had my appendix removed and two resections. From then I suffered regular pain and diarrhoea until 2007 when I stopped eating bread and rice. At that point I could avoid most pain but still suffered from diarrhoea. I reintroduced cereals which were low in gluten and I could happily tolerate small quantities on a daily basis. I am now suspicious of my Crohn's diagnosis but cannot confirm it because my notes have been 'lost' from that period.
Over the past year I have been conducting 'tests' on myself and I have come to something which for a few weeks now has made me essentially normal.
My diagnosis appears to be as simple as low potassium, however this is complicated by what I believe is a complication from fluorine (fluoride).
What I believe is happening is that fluoride in the water is preventing my body using potassium properly. This effectively gives me the symptoms of low potassium which 'slows down' my digestive function and gives me blockages mixed with diarrhoea - which further lowers my potassium. I can't confirm but I have read that low potassium can cause improper digestion of cereals and grains which can cause inflammation and swelling.
My current treatment is to remove sources of fluorine e.g. I was drinking bottled water - "Highland Spring" in the UK was my choice - and making sure not to swallow any toothpaste or mouthwash.
I also added to my diet 1 can of backed beans per day, 2 bananas, a portion of sweet potato or spinach. I have also been taking Potassium Gluconate mixed with water (5g per 2 litres of water per day). As a catch all I've been taking two Actimel yoghurt drinks per day and a multi vitamin tablet.
In a few weeks if my improvement continues I will cut down on the yoghurt drinks and Potassium supplement and start to reintroduce bread and rice but at the moment I currently have no symptoms at all which is the first time in 24 years.
