Hey everyone

Just in the middle of getting diagnosed, had a colonoscopy and MIR few weeks ago and just waiting for results.

It's just hitting my social life so hard, at this age most of my friends are always going out an clubbing an drinking and like i just can't all the alcohol i have tried has made me need to go to the bathroom more frequently and after about 30 mins it gives my stomach a good kick in.

And even just going over my friends house or going out to eat scares me just incase i need the toilet and won't be able to go or have an 'accident'

It's just very limiting and i feel trapped as i don't leave the house much

Any tips or help ?

Thank you :)

Hopefully when you get your results and sort your meds out, you'll get your life back on track. It is tough but especially so when everyone around you is having "fun".Have you joined the Young Adults thread ? I think you'll get lots of support and advice from there.Best Wishes.

I know this is hard for you, I'm 21 and had crohns symptoms from age 15.

It will get easier, once you have a diagnosis you can start looking at treatment options which will help you start getting toward 'normal ' .

It is possible to have fun without alcohol, there are plenty of soft drinks you can try, just drink them slowly. Surely it's better to have soft drinks than feel like you can't go at all?

With going to friends houses - could you just invite them to yours? Or just explain that sometimes you have to use the bathroom quickly and can't wait, so you might have to dash off. Also, you could take some clean underwear and wipes just incase of emergencies. There are also adult 'diapers ' which you can wear under your clothes and are pretty discreet.

I know what it's like to have these fears, after my surgery I was scared to leave the house incase I needed a bathroom and couldn't go, but I never had an accident.

You can get cards from crohns and colitis UK to present in shops and even het a RADAR key for disabled toilets.

As you get used to the way your illness works, you will learn what does and doesn't trigger your urgency, you'll get more used to handling bathroom emergencies and you'll be able to work around things. It'll take a bit of time, but you can enjoy life still.
