I've had severe diahrea since March and have had a colonscopy and been put on antibiotics, Librax and Nexium. Nothing has worked. I also have Lupus and recently had my prednisone increased which slightly helped my diahrea but now that I am tapering down the diahrea is back again along with the severe stomach bloating. My GI doctor says I need to just live with it as everything is "normal" so I decided to go for a second opinion. I picked up my records today and three things made me a little uneasy. My fecal fat test was Positive and my IgA serum was low at 73. My biopsy of my ascending and descending colon also showed "chronic mucosal injury". I also get bloating and very uncomfortable after eating. Should I be concerned about Crohn's or does this sound normal and am I overeacting? Thanks.

I would get another opinion. Also consider testing for celiacs, dairy and wheat allergies.

I was told by an ARNP that I wasn't "where I think I should be" and I might have to "learn to live with it..." She delayed me getting real treatment for my Crohn's and I ended up having surgery. And this happened to me even though I was already diagnosed with the disease!

I definitely think it's worth having someone else go over your results. I hope you do not have Crohn's, but if you do, you definitely don't want to be told to "live with it."

I don't know what normal is so I'd want another opinion for sure. "Chronic mucosal injury" sounds like scar tissue or quite possibly ulcerations. Any doctor who tells you to "live with it" without any sort of diagnosis/explanation can shove it.

I agree with crabby, if the doc cannot give you an explanation as to why you have chronic mucosal injury and then say it is ok and live with it...well...how can he say it is normal if he doesn't know what has caused it. Add to the fact your diarrhoea improved with pred and then worsened when reduced sounds like inflammation...can the doc explain that either. If no , then ask someone else who is prepared to make a diagnosis rather than make inane comments like 'live with it'
