Hi I'm due to have a reversal soon and am really worried,I had a operation for Crohn's disease about 6 months ago and ended up being rushed back in to surgery after a massive bleed in recovery, which ended up in a emergancy illostomy and in intensive care,I can remember most of what happened which scared me so much, I really need a bit of reassurance about anyone who's been through similar experience ,thanks Karen xx

Hi Karen
I had a hemicolecty for my crohns in September and ended up with an unexpected temporary stoma. I have literally just had it reversed and am getting over it a lot better than the first op. there is a whole stoma sub-forum on here any many people have shared their experiences. Is understandable to be nervous but compared to your previous surgeries it should be much shorter, less invasive and I was up and walking on the same day.

Let me know if you have any specific questions :)

Take care

Karen I had my first stoma reversed in 2011 and found that the recovery was a lot easier than the surgery to create the stoma even though I was opened up all the way for both surgeries. Normally they don't have to open you all the way up so recovery would be even easier since its just rejoining the bowel and sewing up the stoma hole. Either way it shouldn't be as traumatic as your last experience. No-one can guarantee there won't be complications but they are the exception rather than the rule. Good luck with it all and let us know how it goes,
 Anna
