TMI warning...

for the past few days, my stool has been GREEN. not just greenish, really green. What is causing this? i haven't been eating anything unusual. I do take 2 multivitamins with iron, but if that were the cause, wouldn't this have happened every time I take the vitamins?

Ive had the greens before. Have no idea what caused it. Ive had bright yellow too. Only once though. If it keeps happening, I would take a sample and go see a doctor. They can at least test it to make sure you are ok.

This thread by Isla has a good link:

What it may mean:
Food is moving through the large intestine too quickly, such as due to diarrhea. As a result, bile doesn't have time to break down completely.

Possible dietary causes:
Green leafy vegetables, green food coloring, such as in Kool-Aid or popsicles, iron supplements.

As you're taking two supplements with iron, are you exceeding the RDA by a large amount?

I wouldn't be too concerned, I had green poop for weeks. It just randomly stopped as some of the above people noted.

Now I take iron and I find my poop is dark brown and sometimes kinda black.

Who knew the rainbow was visible amongst our respective poops lol, ok wow that's gross but yellow, black, brown, green, anyone for purple?

Blue Slurpies from 7-11 produce perfect regulation PGA (Professional Golf Association) green poop. You could take a swatch and it would match up, LOL.

Vivid green.

have you eaten anything with blue colouring in? as the blue and yello (frrom the bile) would make green poo. regardssharon x

Does it smell rancid? I thought green with rancid smell was a symptom of Crohn's. I thought I read that somewhere.

i read something in the paper today that eating beets can cause red urine if you have an iron deficiency. that would have really freaked me out, lol!

Green poop...
Maybe you've been having 'Green Eggs and Ham'....lol

These answers sound like something in a Dr. Suess book...I love it.......

...The poop that comes from the henieyou of the one on the swirlie bowl is of a color like a dark night....lol

Flamin Hot Cheetos= Bright red Scares my doc's everytime. Im normally not a bleeder but when I eat those cheetos I go Bright Arterial Bleeding red. I actually use the cheetos to time how fast my food is going through me.

Aw, rats. I'm on Imuran and pred and I don't have any extra yellow highlighter refills. THAT would be fun for a guy "writing" in the snow!

Flaming hot Cheetos would make my poop go through about 120 miles per hour. I can't believe you can eat those!

when i ate beetroot, i had a see through pouch in those days, and my late husband saw loadsa red and undigested bits of beetroot, he panicked and thought i was having a massive internal bleed and dialed 999, i didnt relise he did this until the paramedics turn up. i had to apolisge to the guys, but they were ok about it and did find it humerous. sharon xx

My poop tends to be kinda orangey with yellow marbling stuff around it and as I'm still getting to know about having crohns colitis I have no idea why it looks like this ::(

Has anyone ever had poop with two colors entwined? One color is clay colored and the other basically black?

Kind of embarassing for me to start talking about all of this but basically I alternate between the D and the C. For the past two months when it's D-time it's all yellow but when it's C and I finally go it's the dual colored stuff. Have no clue what that means and tried googling it but came up without a whole heckofalot of info.

Don't be embarrassed talking about anything here! It may take a little bit to get used to, but you will. We talk about everything imaginable on here :)

Yes, I get it alot, depending on what I eat.

Now if I remember correctly, you haven't been diagnosed, right? And may be having a c-oscopy? Tell me if I'm thinking of someone else...

Black may mean blood. Clay-colored is often a sign of your body not digesting fat.

I have had both. For black, I am anemic but didn't know til this spring or summer. By that point, I had lost a lot of blood. For clay-colored, for some stupid reason, my body decided to stop digesting fat. Having an endoscopy on Monday.

When do you see your GI next?

Yup that's me. I have the upper GI/small bowel follow-through on 10/20 and a colonoscopy on 11/17. I'm not formally diagnosed with anything yet, though I do have fibromyalgia and polyarticular arthritis. Good to know I'm not the only one with those colors!!! lol. I swear to God I've never before looked at the bowl after I did the deed as much as I've been looking lately!!!

LOL yeah, it becomes a "what's it going to look like today" kind of thing... unfortunately, you get used to it!

You'll get to see a lot of colors :ylol:

Hi Boston Lass,

I get tha multicoloured thing sometimes as well. It kinda looks like brickwork with the light colour holding the darker colour bits together. Doesn;t seem to have any problems associated with it - perhaps 'normal' people have poo like that sometimes too, but they just dont take any notice?!

Mine has been green lately too.. and counsidentaly i started taking an iron supplement recently too.. I don't think it's too big of a deal though.
