I have three kids at home with strep...I understand that the most minor infections/illnesses can present as severe in a Crohns patient on these meds. My question is: What should I expect and/or do if I come down with strep also? Anyone ever dealt with something like this?

my kids bring allsorts home all the time and i (touch wood) havent caught a thing. 3 years on remicade and 6mp!
boxing day last year my kids and my hubby all were vomiting violently. I wasnt my cooking i swear! I had to change bedding and clean carpets and toilets all day and escaped unscathed. Have good hand hygiene and be sensible. ie no kissing and using same utensils.

Yeah, my daughter has been on Remicade and Methotrexate for over 3 years and been exposed in tight quarters during youth group trios to mono, flu etc and she also managed to stay healthy through it all. Most recently shared a college single room with two girls, one of which was very sick. She came home fine.

I would say, just look for the usual warning signs and if anything maybe get yourself into the doc a little sooner than you usually would.

Hope the kids feel better soon!

My daughter (with Crohn's) had strep throat earlier this summer. She had a bad sore throat, but didn't have the fever and swollen glands that usually accompany strep, probably due to being immunosuppressed. So just be warned that if you do get strep, your symptoms may not be the same as your kids' symptoms.

Despite being on immunosuppressants, her case wasn't particularly bad, and she responded quickly to antibiotics.

Hope your kids are better soon, and that you don't get it!

I am on completely different meds than you, but I will say that when I had strep last year, I sought advice here. I had the antibiotic given to me in smaller doses I took three times a day and then spaced probiotics in the midpoint between them. Helped tremendously in avoiding a flare due to the antibiotics. Hopefully you avoid the strep, but keep this in mind if you do need antibiotics.
