Does anyone else get this?

I was feeling fine this morning then all of a sudden i get bad pain creeping up and feel like i am going to pass out.

This usually gets so severe that I can do nothing else but rush to A&E.

It started about 20mins ago and I am feeling extremely faint. Thank goodnes my daughter is having her nap.

Not sure what else I can do other than lie down and hope it passes (with the help of some of my meds)

If ever I contact my IBD nurse or docs they ever seem to have any other solutions other than if it gets worse go to A&E. YUCK!

Off to lie down and pray :(

Are you passing blood? Have you had your blood pressure checked?

If you are not passing blood, I am suspecting you blood pressure.... one of the things that can happen on an elemental diet, as we tend not to drink as much water, our salt intake goes down (to help retain that water) and such....

What have they done for you at A&E previously?

@ Christina - Can you check your blood pressure? are you on any meds right now?
Have you eaten enough today?

I hope you feel better soon

I agree with Silver, it could be that your sodium levels are too low and that's causing your blood pressure to drop, which in turn causes you to feel dizzy and awful. I'm speaking from personal experience - it's happened to me frequently. I've found that drinking just a teaspoon or two of soy sauce brings me immediate relief and gets my blood pressure back closer to its normal range. Soy sauce is high in sodium and it's easier to get down than just salt (although I've done that too in a pinch - went shopping with my mother a couple weeks ago and I had to carry around her salt shaker in my purse in case my blood pressure dropped again). I know you're on the Modulen only but hopefully you are allowed a bit of soy sauce or salt if it'll help you feel better.

I hope you're feeling better - please post an update and let us know! We're worried about you.

Hi Silvermoon,
I am not passing blood and have not had my blood pressure checked.
I am feeling ok today, still quite shaky and weak but the pain has gone for now. I think you are right that it was most likely my blood pressure due to not getting enough salt etc. Not sure what caused the pain though....

If I do get admitted to A&E then its up with the IV fluids, antisickness, pain relief and steroids.

thanks for your advice was pretty scary yesterday and was dreading going into hospital, esp as I am meant to feel better on this modulen diet

Hi acg. I have no way of checking my blood pressure other than making an appointment at my doctors surgery and then waiting by which time I will most likely feel better.
The meds I am currently on are pentasa 1gram 3xday, various antisickness and painrelief as and when and movicol/senna if i should need them.

I am not currently eating as I am on a special liquid diet which is a powder called modulen and I can only have that mixed with water and diluted squash/water to drink. I am on week 3 of 6 now and that is most likely why I was feeling so dizzy yesterday. Not sure what caused the pain though but my pain killers managed to keep it at bay for now.

Thanks for your care

Thanks cat-a-tonic
I thin you are spot on that it was low sodium causing me to feel so awful. I will discuss with my dietician as to what I can do if I get that bad again. Still feel quite shaky today but coping.

it's nice to know people care
