I'm new to this forum so please cut me some slack. I was diagnosed with Crohn's 20yrs. ago at age 42. I have been on Pentasa Capsules 500mg 8ea per day since the diagnosis and have had no problems since. My health insurance has now gone up to $1250.00 per month so I can no longer afford it............does anyone know if there is a difference between the Pentasa capsules and the tablets as far as being able to substitute? If there is no difference then I'm going to start getting my medication from C____DA because I'll be able to afford it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I'm in the UK and we get them in slow release tablet form, they come in 50mg and 1g as far as I am aware. I warn you though the 1g Ones are massive! They can also be dissolved in a small amount of water, I haven't tried that though. I have never been offered capsules so I can't compare but haven't experienced any problems either. I would assume there is little difference, perhaps where they get absorbed?

Is pentasa cheaper in canada?

My cost ranges from $1100.00 per month to ??? for 240 capsules. If my research is correct , I can get the 500mg. tablets for $255.00per month in Canada. For a 3 month supply the cost can be even less.

Thanks for the reply. I hope to get more info when I visit my Gastroenterologist next week. My main concern is the amount of time that it takes to get my meds from Canada as I only have a months supply left.
