Temporary end ileostomy stoma prolapse-any advice

Hi all!

Just wondering if anybody has experienced an end ileostomy stoma prolapse? I have a temp stoma which I was considering making permanent as I had been feeling so good, then a few days a go I had some 'period like' pains and thought I needed to empty my bag. However to my shock my stoma had become gigantic so much that I had to cut my bag off it. After an over night in hospital and two docs pushing it back inside my stomach( the most horrible, unusual feeling ever) I have been sent home to push it back in myself and a surgery date scheduled for may. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this as I am unsure as to why this would happen? my stoma nurse says it is more comments with loop ileostomy??
