Hi all, I finally decided to be brave enough to ask about kind of a weird symptom I have been having, to see if anyone has similar or knows what it may be.

Diagnosed a few weeks ago with stricture/inflammation in ileum. Also some abscesses which have apparantly been clearing. Also on colonoscopy had some 'mild colitis' in rectum.

Now, I am on tapering pred and feel pretty good. Get occasional tightness in belly and soreness in back but pooping like clockwork (was bunged up before), so no worries there. No D or anything at all.

However, I seem to have this relatively constant uncomfortable feeling in my exit area. Sometimes it's like I need to go, but don't. Sometimes I get a wee throb of pain. I also have these feelings in my girl parts. Like something is pushing down and I have to consciously pull all the girly and butt muscles back in.

Now, it is no major deal painwise or anything but I guess I have concerns that something may be going on there that could indicate future problems. I haven;t experienced incontinence or anything yest and certainly don;t want to!

Any ideas??

Shaz :Flower:

Hmm, I looked it up, interesting. Actually it can be caused by and have symptom of chronic constipation and feelings of fullness and unfinished bowel motions which sounds like me.

I expect there are degrees of it and I don't seem to have any major issues thus far but would be interested if this is ringing any bells with anyone.

The other option I found was something called rectocele which is when the bowel prolapses and pushes into the vag wall - symptoms same pretty much.

Looks like I need to get into some of those pelvic floor exercises as all that being blocked up may have done some damage! Actually it makes sense as it all does feel quite weak down there since having this problem over the past two months. Thanks Dan - I will get squeezing and see if it helps! :eek2:

YES! I have had this, Shaz. I seriously thought my vagina was going to fall out - I thought it was uterine prolapse and got myself to the gyno asap and she said she didn't really think it was, but they could do a hysterectomy anyways if it got worse (wtf??) or I could do some kegals. Well I sure did those kegals!
Since then I still get the feeling like my butt is gonna fall off sometimes, but it is mostly when I am standing too long. Danman was describing this same feeling (except for the girl-part, haha) but I have NO idea what thread it was in.
Try the kegals and see if that helps at all, I bet it will. Good luck!

YES MBH - ot kinda feels like everything just wants to come out! :eek2: Both parts! It's only a new thing and it has been concerning me quite a bit - what if things DO fall out??

I expect all the pushing and pressure from not being able to go for a few weeks recently may have contributed. That and I am indeed very unfit after feeling so unwell for months. Did some weed-eating in the garden yesterday and feels like someone has tried to rip my arms off!

Anyway, since Dan's pearls of wisdom and a quick internet search I am pretty sure it is the bowel (Rectocele) and not my most important womanly bits that are the problem. I have already been doing some exercises and can feel from that that things are not so strong down there.

Though they can't be THAT bad considering I managed recently to hold in all the water they put up my butt for the MRI!

Just another thing to work on along with the Crohns - thank goodness I don;t have D!!

I shall ask my GI about it next monday when I see him and I guess shall expect another look up my butt!

Hey Shaz, I also had this throbbing feeling and it turned out I have a rectovaginal fistula. :( Has the throbbing bettered for you?

shazamataz,
Interestingly what you describe is some of what I was feeling prior to diagnosis, but I also was developing some mild urinary incontinence at the time. Once the inflammation in my bowel settled down all these other symptoms went away.

I recommend that you seek out a physiotherapist who specializes in incontinence. They will be able to examine you and figure out if any of it is related to muscle weakness or muscle control problems. Mine was able to help me understand that I had some minor bladder stress incontinence (sneeezing, coughing) but that most of my problems were not related to this.

Depending on what is going on, you may in fact be making things worse if you are not strengthening the correct muscles. You may be helping tight ones get tighter. I just had the one assessment and advice re: exercises and it was very helpful.
