Does anyone have any advice about which companies cover people with Crohns Disease?

I was diagnosed in February this year and started on mesalazine 2g granules twice a day from then until a couple of weeks ago when I had a flare and had my first course of prednisolone (five days 50g). My medication was changed to azathioprine (100g daily) and I'm having weekly bloods to make monitor liver etc.

I had a colonoscopy late last year which showed inflammation and this was followed up with a small bowel MRI in January 2016 which confirmed two areas of inflammation in the small bowel and a diagnosis of Crohns.

We are meant to be going to California, USA in April for ten days with my daughters for a dance trip but I've already been rejected once for insurance through QBE due to recent flare and change in medication. They suggested asking for a review in three months and if I've not had any flares etc it might be accepted.

Meanwhile we need to pay deposits and book next week so if I can't find anyone to cover me then we won't be able to go - I'm just not prepared to risk it.

I've read somewhere here that CoverMore won't cover if hospitalisation in the last 2 years so that counts me out there.

Hi. Within this same section, there is a section called traveling with Crohns. You might want to check it out.

TammyR, try both Covermore and Suresafe, find a general insurance broker.

Make sure you fill out the medical declaration correctly.

I purchased a 12month policy for daughter for England using Covermore.

Your trip is for next year?

Suresafe I believe is one year for hospitalisation. Check both polices are definition of hospitalisation. If by hospitalisation you mean colonscopy as day surgery this may not count as hospitalisation.

I'm an Australian with Crohns colitis(it's been pretty stable, technically in remission, currently just on Sulphasalazine). I've used Covermore now for several years, including travel to the US. I've documented my condition, and I presume they've contacted my gastroenterologist, and been given the all clear... Anyway for several years now I've been covered although I am paying an extra premium for cover for this specific medical condition
