Hi.
I was wondering if any of you happen to buy travel insurance for your IBD if going out of the country for vacations? My work has changed my medical to where it doesn't cover out of network. So, husband and I were thinking of asking around before visiting outside of the US this next week. If you've used it, would you mind sharing who you went through?

Hope this finds you all well. Thanks!

Hi Cross-stitch gal
I think our system is different in the uk we can get cover with the package but you have to be careful as some condition like Crohns are not part of them we have to buy separate insurance and some of these companies charge that much it can cost more than the holiday itself.
I would shop around and see if you have specialized insurers in the US.
I have found going on holiday a nightmare as far as insurance goes.

Just a little update:
We went to our insurance agent to see if they happen to insure for medical too. Although they were shocked and horrified, they didn't so we ended up going on to somewhere else.

That's where we ended up at AAA (american automobile association) which mostly helps with roadside vehicle towing and such. But, we found that they happen to have an area inside them called: Allianz Global Assistance that covers medical while traveling too. For just that time that we're to be outside the states to visit family it ended up being $56. But, at the same time it covers more than the medical that my work covers so it's worth it while I'm in a flare.

Husband and I talked and we figure that if my work doesn't cover out of network again next year, we'll get this again for both of us if we decide to travel abroad.
