Grace is scheduled for a MRE next week.
I've watch a video on-line but it didn't tell us much.
You would think I would know more but when it's your kid seems like we forget.

Just a reminder, Grace has a g-tube, so she doesn't have to drink.

Some questions:

1 Will she be able to have Zofran before the contrast?
2 Will I be able to stand next to her while the MRI is on?
3 Will she have times she can move around?
4 How long did it take for your kids to finish the test?

Any other advice would be welcomed.:ghug:

If you ask they can give zofran iv
Most kiddie hospital let you in the room and have a chair for you
You can even hold her hand
She will be strapped belly down to the table with what looks like a back board to her back
Hands over head
Imaging takes about an hour

They tell her when to breathe in and out and when to hold her breathe
No free moving wiggle breaks but can move hands when they change things
Beware of the galulidium it majes most puke
They put it in the iv half way through
DS puked after 5 minutes in the tube .
Good luck

A's took at least an hour. I was seated on a little stool by her head (wearing earplugs). She was supposed to be able to watch a movie but it wasn't working properly. She did vomit and poop/pee herself while in the machine. They just keep going, no moving allowed. She was asked to hold her breath for long periods of time (I held my breath too so it felt like a long time! Lol). We didn't use zofran but it may have helped.

I think a lot of kids take Zofran before drinking...just ask your GI o the radiology department when they call to go over the particulars.

T's schedule was 2 hours of drinking then about 45 minutes in the tube. She wasn't allowed to move in the tube but they did take her out about 30 minutes into the imaging to put the glucagon in and she was able to wiggle a little bit until they put her back in.

You can usually stay in the room while it is being done.

Since she will most likely take the contrast in her tube, I am not sure about nausea and vomiting but the best advice I got was to bring a change of clothes...we needed them.

Also not sure if this applies to her with the tube but they gave her 2 hours to drink the contrast and she definitely needed it. I got there at the time they said and paperwork, IV placement etc took almost a half hour so she only had 1 1/2 hours to drink and it was a bit of pressure and added to the vomiting...I think anyway. So I would arrive at least 15 minutes early so "drinking" starts on time.

Andrew has only had a plain mri and they let me stay in the room. No idea on the rest, hope it goes well

I don't remember J vomiting. I did not get to stay with her, but the IV placement was the most traumatic part for her. She could only drink one bottle of contrast.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Getting ready now for our commute down state.
I have an extra change of clothes and games on my tablet for Grace.

Do you kids have to ware a hospital gown if their clothing has no metal on it?

T didn't have to wear a gown but I have heard that some kids do (better that way because then if they throw up in the tube they don't mess up their clothes).

Results were sent to doc within a day or two.

Good luck.

M had to wear a gown. It was a few days before we got the results back.
Good luck!

With imaging we always have the results either the same day or the next, including enterograph.

Good luck and safe travels, I hope all goes well for you both. :ghug:

We're thankful we made it back before the snow storm hit....hard!

I was not allowed to go with her!:(
The said they will come get me if she acts up but I would have to change into FULL scrubs to go in.
But she did great and the Child Life lady said she was one of the youngest to not have to be sedated. Kind of proud of that but it's only because she's been thru a lot already. Bitter sweet I guess.

I saw a pic of the room and it was amazing. Totally painted to look like a rainforest. The MRI had a built in tv, so Grace watched Frozen....of course.

Grace cried with belly cramps half the trip home and even this morning says she's sick.

I don't know if it applies with a g tube, but we were told to drink lots and lots of water, followed by more water to flush the contrast out. DS always gets stomach pains after as well. Hope she's improving as the day wears on...

Way to go Grace !!! M loves the MRI's with the TV's too.

Hope the results come back soon.

So good to hear you arrived home safely. :)

And what a champion Grace is! :medal1:

I hope things have settled for her now that you are home, bless her heart. And good luck with the results!

I'm glad it went well. Have you gotten results yet? Sounds like a really nice place to have the test done. She's such a trooper. I hope she's feeling better by now. Did she have to wear a gown?
