Hi All,

Two days before my hospital stay my PCP checked my vitamin D level and it was 5.9. The normal value is 30-100. I bought the chewables and started taking them each day. Funny thing is my PCP office has not contacted me regarding this yet. I checked the results online.

My that is very low. My level was 21 and my PCP put me on prescription Vit D 50,000 iu one time a week. I've been on that prescription for several months and my level has increased into normal (but still low 30s) range. You should definitely get in touch with your dr on this.

Mine was 11 last month. I think part of the problem with many people having low Vitamin D is the winter months. The sun on our skin is a natural supplier of Vit D and most of us stay indoors during this time of year.

Get yourself some Vitamin D supplements at the store. Also, you might want to check your calcium levels because Vit D can go hand in hand with it.

As lilrocker mentioned, you want to open up a dialogue with your doctor on this. How many IU's are the pills you're taking now? With a level like that, I can just about guarantee that it's not enough. You're going to need VERY high dosages and to have your blood levels monitored to make sure the dosage is sufficient.
