Advice on how to approach her GI about a differencing opinion we received from Mayo.

How do you judge which opinion is correct?

Sorry a bit of a panic. I'm calling her GI to talk about what Mayo said.
I don't want to offend him but I don't want to ignore what the other opinion said either.

Thanks:hug:

Is it an option for them to talk to each other first and then call you? In my experience, that's the only way things resolved (i.e. when surgery wanted to operate and GI wanted to do 6MP).

Mayo should have copied your local Gi on the visit summaries for Grace as had correspondence with your Gi .
If not then provide your Gi with a copy of the visit summary and doctor recommendation you were given by Mayo.
This way you can discuss what options you have in light of the second opinion.

Gi may want the same things or
Something different .
This just opens the door for discussion about why the recommendations are a good idea or not .

Please do not feel bad about having gone for a second opinion ... it is quite common and any good doctor should expect this and appreciate this. (We did this twice to our GI, who we love, and I also felt bad like I betrayed him. He did not mind and in the end this just helped support his statement that Danny's condition was hard for current medical profession to diagnose.)

We have seen some doctors sort of roll their eyes at other doctors opinions, but typically if it came from a doctor of a different specialty (ie an infectious disease doctor calling it refractory Crohn's)

Our pediatrician told me that if a doctor does not want to hear another doctor's opinion, then he should not be practicing medicine.

I agree it will be best if you can provide Mayo's write up. Doctors appreciate hearing or reading directly from other doctors.

Good luck!

I talk to her local GI's office and they said that they would get back to me.
They called an hour and later and asked if they could get a copy and once received the GI would call me and let me know his opinion. I faxed it and now I wait!

Our GI actually sent us for our second opinion. A second opinion can be valuable but also confusing. Ideally the doctors would communicate and decide together what the best treatment would be. We are still waiting to hear our GI's thoughts on our second opinion as well.
