What is YOUR weather like today??

Lots of people at the beach having a swim, I am not one of them. When I was a kid you couldn't get me out of the water. Now I only want to be on it , not in it. Ron.

The weather was nice and warm but partial cloud yesterday. We didn't get to paddle in the sea as it was half way to Holland. God, that tide knows how to do a vanishing act when we arrive for a paddle.

Today we have rain which the garden badly needs otherwise my water bill is too much of a problem. I always seem to forget that it costs a lot to water the tubs and planters.

On this stretch of Queenland's Barbary Coast, Vit B complex is considered to be a useful deterrent. It won't work until there is sufficient amounts of it in the system. The theory is that your sweat eventually becomes unpalatable to the little B"s As an old jungle soldier, we found the best thing to do on patrols in Borneo was not to wash of shave, mostly for tactical reasons, but with the bonus of NOTHING being game to bite you after a week in the'Ulu!"

BO has to be the best form of repellent. Layers of sweat and dirt between generous applications of deet based insect repellent keeps them away. Its been my prefered first line of defence when working in bush, but its not so well received at home. By then all it does is make me feel hot, and a good shower feels like luxury when my skin can once breath again.

Twas 5c here this morning and didn't warm up much. I think the high was 15c or so. I was inside working for most of the day... I still have contractors everywhere and the sparky is wearing my patience very thin... I'm having a talk with the general tomorrow and I've had it with that dude. The furnace and heat pump are all done and ready to go and we're waiting on a guy that's full of bullshit. The kind that just makes you just want to rage. For frig sack! Tell me if you can't be here... He's about to see the other side of me and the door might hit his ass on the way out.

Patience is a virtue seth the Lord and my mother. However, that doesn't get the bloody job done! Ron is spot on about 'tradies': it is a universal trait.

Cooler today, I may move firewood this afternoon 15C. I don't know if I am now losing my memory, or something else going on, but I found my radiator cap removed and sitting on top of the rad when I did a general check under the hood, as if it had not been put back either by accident or intent to do harm. I'm mystified by this, as the rad was only down 1 liter of coolant and it takes a hour of travel to go anywhere around here. I have been leaving the truck unlocked, but for now I am keeping it locked.

Hi All
Not been to well last week but the weather here it has rained this last couple of days but it is still muggy they keep saying thunder storms still waiting.
I go for the Pillcam on Thursday a little anxious as I suffer from constipation I hope it does not get stuck as I am due to go on holiday the week after keep your fingers crossed for me.

Sorry to hear you've not been well Cw,and hope Thursday goes OK for you.....This Crohns malarkey has got to be one of the most stressful of illnesses,if only because it can creep up on us and cause all sorts of embarrassment and inconvenience.....
23c with a warm breeze....if only I had some laundry to dry to make it acceptable.
Buff what would be worse.....the beginning (?) of forgetfulness or someone playing tricks ?

There are times when I think I am losing my mind, seems better to double and tripple check things. I went to the cabin to check up on it, I stayed only long enough to give the place a vacuuming. The deerflies out there are intense, I could slap three of them at a time. I don't use the place during middle of summer due to the pests. Today is a regular summer day in the 20's.

Blimey its hot! I went out to do a little shopping and the sweat was running down my face glad I have had my hair cut quite short.
We are never satisfied with the weather are we either too hot or too cold hey hum.
Hope everyone is ok today cmack keep cool & Ron.
scottsma a very good day for laundry.

Hi ALL
Well we had our thunder storm late last night it woke me up so up I got to open the blinds to watch it.
My husband slept through it all, I really enjoyed it. The rain was battering the bedroom window and it got a little fresher.
It is now back to hot and muggy no fresh air at all. Getting ready to take the bowel prep this afternoon for the pillcam tomorrow.
I hope I don't start feeling sick with the heat.

hi all
I went for the pillcam today ten miles to hospital guess what they cancelled it. I was not happy it seems there is only one machine and some one else had been booked in.
I have told them I am on holiday next week so they will send for me later in August.
That's disgraceful cw.And in that heat !!! they should have your phone number on the records ?

Hi scottsma
They do have my number but we had already set off.
The IBD nurse Gill was very apologetic it is the first time this has happened.
You were right about the weather fortunately the patient tr ansport car had air con so the journey was not too bad.
The weather today is a little fresher I hope it does get a bit cooler still though.
Hope you all are keeping cool.

We had a cracker of a thunderstorm last evening after a long day. I had just bought clamps for the lower rad hose when the old clamp popped on the way home, uncanny how instinct and timing came together. Good thing I was keeping an eye on the temperature gauge as I knew the old clamp was bad when doing a check last week or I could have lost the engine. I was near an old friend's home when it happened. I replaced the clamp and he brought water which then turned into a full blown visit
Sorry to hear about the cancellation Curlywurly, that is awful to take the prep only to find the appointment cancelled. Good to be rid of the contractors Chris, nothing beats a properly air conditioned home, and nothing worse than a home without it.

I'm glad you caught that engine temp in time, Buff. I think sometimes an impromptu visit can turn into the best kind of fun though... ;)
It's a cool morning with scattered cloud cover. The temperature is 11c at the present time and there's a 30 percent chance of showers. Cheers all!

Overcast and cool this morning. We are expecting showers later in the week. Spent the day under my boat yesterday. I was advised not to get it welded as it is pinholed . Apparently it is easy to can destroy large areas of hull trying to weld it. I drilled all of the holes and put in 4mm sealed rivets coated with sigaflex. I will put it in the water next week to see if I missed any. Ron.

Bad day at the hospital on Friday. I think i did away with the weekend and am pleased to say i've actually had a really good day. I feel so much better.

Lovely and sunny here. Still have loads of bine stem all over my garden. The neighbours have the same major issue. Won't get much done having done other things, but now we're in for wet weather week.

Curly, imagine being "All prepped up and no place to go" (that's a meatloaf song). I would have been furious.

So now we know what you do on a Sunday Ron. Hope that boat holds!

Overcast this morning. Feeling that Autumnal feel already, mind, we are in August now! My flowers are blooming but the fledglings have flown away. Only a couple of hedgies now too. Don't know where mr Toad went. And truthfully i grow mainly binestem in my garden. I'm going to seek out a gardener for myself. I deserve some help in the garden department. It will just make me feel better.

Yeah Merv , I've been watching the maps. There has been a kink in the isobars off SEQ. Instead of the winds being south east it has been blowing almost from the south . If you were 80 kliks off the coast you would be copping a bucketing. The weekend is almost here. Odds on it turns South east for that . Ron.

17c and calm.A few miles to the south of us,about an hour or so's drive,in North Yorkshire, they've had horrendous floods.Homes ,cars and business's ruined, including B&Bs and campsites, and some live stock drowned. Also mud slides and some of the iconic "dry stone walls" of Yorkshire.washed away.....No lives lost though, but soul destroying....

Oh, Buff, my neighbour starts his mechanical work at 7am in the garden sometimes. I get so irate at him, but i've not mentioned it. He does have a workshop about 20 miles away, but he does so much at home drives me mad. I'm so sorry for you.

It's trying to be a sunnier day, but i've got my winter woolly back on. I have also had the heating on briefly recently too.

19c and muggy....I've noticed a LOT of butterflies fluttering around this last week.THE PAINTED LADY Has been spotted in a few
places and apparently we get "invaded" once in a decade.Theirr round trip from Africa and through Europe is about 7,500 miles.
I had one in my kitchen the other day,and luckily it found it's way out safely.....I have to say it beats BLACK WIDOW spiders and the rest (RON & MERV) and whatever Buff and CHRIS have running around the homestead.

We have a few poisonous spiders, Carol. The worst are the brown recluse and the hobo species. There are black widows and rattlesnakes to the west of us but thankfully not here. We do have false widows which are a relative to the black. They like to bite if you disturb them... Ouch! We're at 10c this morning. Take good care all.

Nothing poisonous is found around here, but we have ticks that carry Lymes disease and other nasties. Going back 35 years and more I used to have moose standing in the yard. It was not uncommon to see a cow and her calf moose nibbling at the lawn, and the thumping sound when walking by the house. Lots of black bear too. Then they clear cut the lands to the east in the 1990's, and then leveled the forests to our north recently. Now we have nothing, even the birds and bees are silent. To see the birds and bees dissapear is strange, but it can be traced back to the herbicides the logging industry uses to kill off all the indigenous growth to make way for managed tree plantations, where only one or two species of trees exist or rather allowed to exist in order to grow them as fast as possible, much like force fed livestock on industrial farms.
Oh, the weather, a good warm summer day coming up into the upper 20's. Going to go visiting to get away from the roaring saws that can be heard through the walls of my house this morning.

It is funny Carol when you live with nasty critters you learn to leave them alone and treat them with respect. There was a news article a few weeks ago of two English backpackers playing around In a low tide rock pool. They found a little octopus and were filming it on one of the guys arm. It was a blue ringed octopus responsible for several deaths in Australia. Even when told about it the pair did not seem to realise how dangerous their actions were. If you are travelling abroad it certainly pays to do some research into what you may encounter on your travels. Just last week a large croc died at a croc farm. They did an autopsy and inside it they found a titanium plate used in human hip replacements. Strangely, most croc attacks kill locals who have become complacent . Ron.

Thanks guys, love your action man posts....Ron,I have the utmost respect for all critters, and a sense of awe too. When using the loo in Oz.I always clattered the seat before hand and had a good look round.I once shared a cubicle with one of those stubby tailed lizards, about 2ft long.We just stared at each other...…..20c with a warm breeze today.
A town in the South has been evacuated due to the dam above it being in danger of bursting. The retaining dam wall has fractured and heavy rain is causing problems.

It's been quite nice today. Think all the seeds i planted have flowered apart from a nasturtium, dunno how that came up. Just the one and i didn't plant any of those seeds because i didn't have any. None have grown before. Strange.

The fledgies and baby hedgies have gone to find a territory of their own. Nothing bad here as far as critters and creepy crawlies are concerned i have incurred a few false widows, but nothing bad. Lots of butterflies here too, Carol.

Buff, so sad to have nature removed from you. Our world has changed drastically. It's very sad.

The saws are quiet on the weekend. I Went out to take a look at the area and its no longer the familiar forest land I remember. Its now another piece of brown barren land that has become another net carbon producer as the biomass rots. I would welcome selective harvesting, but clear cutting is nothing short of strip mining except that clear cuts destroy far more land for the very small quantity of return (wood) and causes mercury to leach into the ground water.

A warm summer day coming up, might as well soak it up out on the deck.

Nothing like a hot day with the airconitioner running and a good summer drink on the deck there Chris. Today is a regular summer day, yesterday was gray and cool which made changing the lower rad hose quick and easy. Auto work is not one of my favorite tasks, but its not going to fix its self.
