What is YOUR weather like today??

A few of the control burns around the place are getting out of hand already. Dammed if you do ,dammed if you don't. Some of the High country towns on the Qld border only have a few days water left in their dams. They will have to start trucking in water by next week. Bad news with the bushfire season staring in mid winter. Ron.

Steady normal summer conditions here , hope the weather will provide some needed rains Ron. Chris, if you were closer I'd have plenty of work for you. There comes a point in life when one gets tired of turning wrenches and being put out to pasture isn't so bad.

I know what you mean Buff. If doing something hurts it is no fun doing it. I have been a mechanic all of my life working on all manner of industrial and domestic sewing machines . It has crossed over into other areas. I have always serviced and repaired my own outboards and cars. I even worked on the simplex diesel locos they use here for hauling sugar cane . I'm used to servicing all manner of fishing equipment. Do I like It? no!. Never have never will. I just pulled the leg off my 15 hp Yamaha out board and replaced all of the water pump and the quad seal (seal on the gear change rod). I can't afford to get things done so I just do it. It saves me a lot of money but it still remains a pain in the backside. Ron.

Occasional showers with some sun. I think we're all getting a very wet and windy weekend, well, those of us in the UK.

Ron, how do blokes even manage to stick at something they dislike? I know a few that hate their work with a passion but don't change to something else. Sad really.

My work was similar Ron, having worked in a large healthcare institution in the steam plant with a multitude of building mechanical including the laundry and kitchen equipment for the 150 bed facility. I remember there were over 120 toilets that would need periodic servicing, and other ugly jobs The work becomes a drag with time and becomes a toil of labor with the Chrons. At work I used to have to plan my trip around the building where I could find a toilet and time it with my work. I don't miss that at all, its bad enough getting to the loo in time at home.

I don't know Diane. I guess it is a form of evolution. I always wanted to do Vet science when I was younger but my family could not afford to put me through uni. I went to work in my fathers industrial sewing machine business. He offered the opinion that if you are really good at something you should do it rather than reach your point of incompetence doing something your heart wants to do. At thirteen he thought I had tremendous potential as a mechanic, I only had to look at something to understand how it works. That is still the case and results in me having more work than I can handle. It is Saturday morning and one of the other sewing machine outlets in the area have asked me to come over and sort some problems out as there senior tech is on holidays. Bugger! Ron.

I did not know what I wanted to do when I was young and started out doing various jobs. I signed up for a cleaners job at the healthcare complex and then stepped up to the maintenance department when a position opened. At the time I did not understand the full importance of the pension plan. I worked years in maintenance doing various plumbing and electrical work, became proficient troubleshooting the laundry and kitchen equipment. These are large as the washing machines were big enough for a person to be inside the drum. A lot of these jobs were dirty, and as time went on I took an interest in the steam plant and the effort to get away from sick toilets and other filthy jobs.
My employer helped me with my steam ticket and I went on to work as a stationary engineer overseeing the steam plant and HVAC systems for heating and cooling. It was good work much cleaner, but later I had to let all go when I had the big flare that required colostomy surgery, I couldn't do the lifting required and the wind went out of my sails. Since then its all water under the bridge of retirement.

Clear, but cold with westerly winds, typical for this time of winter. Max 21 C forecast, but feeler cooler.
Career-wise,(9 years in the Brit army. Served in Brunei, Borneo Berlin and Belfast. Could never escape the bloody 'B''s.

Registered Nurse (RMN) psychiatric firstly, then general(SRN), a mister sister if you like. Most of my time was spent in the nebulous world of forensic psych. Initially, I trained at the Broadmoor Special Hospital for the criminally bewildered at Crowthorne UK. Migrated to Tasmania in 1977 and later moved to Sydney where I was the chief nurse of the main gaol psych unit.

After 19 years of dealing with patient and staff lunacy, I transferred to the NSW Probation & Parole Service as a lowly field officer, but without the hassles of being the boss. After 9 years I was medically retired at the age of 54, having developed CD after an appendicectomy which morphed into peritonitis. Now 75 years of age,I amuse myself by taking copious medicaments for Crohn's, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Ischaemic Heart Disease and an ingrown toenail. I still have a pulse and something resembling a sense of humour. Also, I accept that maturity is the realization that one will never actually reach that stage in life!!

We always referred to the winter westerlies as the lazy wind, it can't be bothered blowing around you so it just goes straight thru you. My problem with growing older is that there is a thirty year old mind trapped in a well worn sixty nine year old body. Just when you have learned enough to be of use to society you are almost dead. Ron.

Hi All
Just back from my holiday in the IOM the weather was hot and I managed to get sunburned. I have to say the island is lovely with plenty to see and do.
The only problem was finding toilets on our travels it was a bind.
I came back on Wednesday and celebrated my big 60th Birthday on Thursday.
The weather here at the weekend was torrential rain and very windy should have stayed in Douglas.
I read the news about Whaley Bridge while away it looked aweful hope they did not get any more rain.
I also like it that Merv &Buff have not lost their sense of humour and hello to you Scottsma hope you are well.

What an interesting life Merv. And that humour. Wonderful.
So it was your fathers business, Ron. Now i understand how you even got into it. Mind, it's useful to be someone who can look at mechanical stuff and sport a problem and fix it. But...I think you should think about retiring, lol. when is that gonna happen?

Happy Birthday Curlywurly.

My winter woollies got put away for around two weeks. I'm now back in them Carol.

Sun at the moment. I have put heating on briefly on a few occasions lately. I can see a few leaves turning already. Summer seems less and less like summer these days, apart from last summer. Whinge, whinge.

Thank you Ron I am now part of the 60 club ha ha.
Happy Birthday CW. Glad you enjoyed your hol. on the I.O.M except for the stress of absent loos that is.That's always a problem when away from your home patch. Sixty years old eh ? Oh,I remember it well....Can any of you remember getting a nasty "stitch" in your side while running when young ? Another distant memory..

I did that a couple of months ago CW...….dried mine with hair dryer but it was never the same and I had to replace it.That's the trouble when you're a crohnie and expecting a call.I always make sure to put mine on the floor until I'm all done and flushed. As if I've not got enough to think about.....no change in weather since my earlier post.

CW, i have never dropped a phone down the toilet. Would prob never happen with a land line, but what are people taking their phones to the loo for? My niece has done it multiple times too. Far worse than that of course is when the computer loses its hard drive. I'm trying to use this really old slow one.

Well, i had hoped to be entertained by those wonderful thunder storms that were predicted for today, but, drizzle. Feels like Autumn already.

The weather here has not changed , heading for mid to high twenties over the weekend . I bit the bullet today and told the boss I am finishing up. I will gradually run down the number of days I work whilst they find someone. Start at three days a week from next Tuesday. Ill probably reduce by one or two days a month. No feeling of sadness. I have been getting my boat into shape and looking forward to some fishing. Ron.

I wasn't taking my phone to the loo to use I used it as an alarm to wake my husband up for work.
I had put it in the back pocket of my jeans to take down stairs decided to go to the loo and forgot to take the damn phone out before i took down my trollies.this new phone i have got is so complicated to set up or i am thick will not be going anywhere near a toilet lol.
The weather today is windy and showers.

Ahoy, Ron is pushing the boat out and cutting his hours. None too soon Ron. Enjoy those extra days of leisure.

Curly, i have had an e-cigarette fall out the pocket and down the loo. Would have been less annoyed if it was my phone, lol

CMack, you'll have to video the storms and upload them for us in the UK.

Should have had my washing hanging out. Never mind, just glad we have a sunny day.

It would be great to get on the plane and get away from the roaring logging machinery for a time out down under at Ron's. They are going at it like the front line of the war, its no wonder why the environment is failing with this level of consumption. I moved several loads of firewood this week, I should be warm this winter. 18C with some overcast.

Just fought my way down the road with my elderly cats for their boosters and claw cuts. Battled strong winds with driving rain. It would have been more helpful if i could have driven there but it's only about 10 doors down. My cat sunk her teeth into me, lol. Vet was worried. I'm keeping an eye on it and got antibiotic cream.

Can i join Ron's retirement party. (Not that he's giving up completely).

20 and expecting a warm day. Summer break has also given drivers a break from the school busses clogging up the roads. I can understand busing the rural kids, but the urban kids should walk like we did. In middle school I had a 3.5 km walk, there was no bus the fresh air and exercise did no harm. Going to take a look at a second hand snowmobile later.

I remember as kids we would make camp fires under the bridge and hang out after school on the way home. In those days daylight saving time ended much earlier and we enjoyed earlier onset of darkness with a much longer evening. It would be dark not long after school. I have always been an evening person all my life.

I was just the opposite, morning was my time. I always loved the false dawn before sunrise heading out into the Coral sea . I have seen some magnificent sunrises over the years. We had 27c yesterday and expecting 28c today. No sign of any rain in the near future. All of our dams are starting to get low. Ron.

I enjoy watching the night sky, the meteor showers have gone by and the fall sky is developing, the next moon will be our last summer moon of the year. Its nice to be outside as the biting fly season has ended day or night. Watch that bear Chris, after being stalked a few times I don't trust these unpredictable animals. Its not a good feeling when one becomes seen as a menu item far out in the bush.

I don't trust a black bear as far as I can throw it. Let's just say I'm well prepared... I carry bangers, spray and a shotgun... Plus I can yell like a drill Sergeant when needed! ;) I respect the bears and command respect if neccesary. I know they can swat me like a fly... However, whatever will be will be, I suppose. If I do go missing, be sure to check out the latest edition of bear scat weekly!:(
It's currently 33c in the shade.

Hi All
We are all showing our age going back to our school days I remember walking to school in the hail storms and my bare legs kept getting stung with the hail those were the days.
I am sure that was a song anyway back to the present rain again today but it is getting warm again have seen on the weather forcast it is supposed to get quite warm towards the end of August beginning of September.
I hope cmack that the bear has loped off you do make me laugh you have lifted me up today not had a good week with anxiety.

Dad has been throwing rotten apples in the compost bin... I told him it would attract bears. If anybody want's to see one just come on over in a couple weeks, there should be one ripping the box apart. Last year one climbed the pear tree and ate all the pears before they were even ready to be picked. I would estimate there were 150-200 lbs of pears. If you really want it to be sunny with a high probability of wildlife... Here's the place to be! It's 26c and rising at the moment. Cheers!

We are getting strong westerly winds and very dry conditions. All you can smell outside is smoke, A large out of control bushfire is currently burning on Bribie island just to the south of us. At the moment it is not expected to cross to the mainland due to the strong westerly wind but they are predicting a severe bushfire season for SE Qld. Temps around 26c today and humidity only reached 12% yesterday. Ron.

Omg, i can't imagine a bear in the pear tree. Putting on winter weight courtesy of your fruit.

The evenings are pulling in now. The hedgies are still elusive. Far fewer birds now too. Has been quite nice today and i think we are set to have the hottest August bank holiday on record next Monday. Looking forwards to that weather.

Another big low heading up the east coast from a tasman sea low. Surf warnings for all of the NSW coast , waves up to 8 metres. Still no sign of rain . We had three more fires in the region overnight A lot of the SE Qld shires are on water restrictions. Ron.

20c and rising...last day of the holiday weekend and the main road to the coast, which runs parallel to us,is like the Wacky Races...
Yesterday a lady asked if it was ok to park at our door, which it was. She'd dropped off her hubby and kids in Tynemouth village which is a mile away, and couldn't find a closer parking space anywhere...…..stayng home again today until the madness ends.

Hard getting used to having four days off every week. I haven't got much left to do on the boat , next week I will water test it to see if I have found all of the leaks and do a final set up on the new electric. The winds have died down and they are saying we might get a storm tomorrow. We just don't have storms in August. The times they are a changing. Ron.

I took a time out at the cabin, it was as noisy there as it was at the house with the logger's saws raging. We went up through the new cut, and could not recognize the area except for the distant landmarks, what was dense forest has become cleared lands. These open clear cuts are hot and dry under the sun. Ron you will find those four days off get shorter as time goes on. 15C and expecting rain, I'll need to put on the fire later on.

Too hot today lol. Put lots of water out for the wildlife, all my tubs got 2 Waterings today. They are still a bit dry. Used to be mayhem in Bude at this time of year. You'll be so pleased when they bugga off home, C.
Ron, you'll soon get used to 4 days a week off. It's good to rest with the way your health has been, but enjoy the boat. Careful of storms too.

That's got to be a first Di., you complaining about the heat.....23 today and luckily I managed a walk into town and back on the shadey side of the street...…..Ron,it won't be long before you wonder how you had time to go to work, trust me.

What storms, Spooky? The forecast for yesterday was rain (none) and the 'chance of a shower", didn't happen. Maybe one day there is a chance that the Met mob might get it right. Quite warm this morning at 0700, maybe that storm might go into labour today!

I like to ride up the twistys to the ski hill and beyond on my bike. I have recently found out how much brake dust there is on the mountain road. I was out Sunday and it poured rain while I was on my way home. My bike and gear is now black on white. Time for a full cleaning! YAY! I still had fun so it's all good. ;) My bike sets me free. :)

I love my bike rides too Chris, but they're on hold for the time being until Les gets better.I wouldn't go out without him, that would be spiteful.....It's a lot cooler today with some little showers.Corker of a thunderstorm during the night probably help clear the air...….Tragic fires in the Amazon and not to mention the melting icecaps in the Arctic.Kids are swimming in the sea off Greenland where the temp.is 22c. Usually 8c at this time of year.I despair. How are we going to reverse this in time ?
