Woke up to light rain this morning. We certainly need it. We may get a storm this afternoon. They now think it will be light rain again tomorrow. I certainly will not be going out in the boat if it is raining. I too have not been feeling well. My bloods last week showed a big spike in my gamma gt and my cholesterol was in the high nines. All that indicates I'm having a bit of a flare in my auto immune hepatitis. Ron.
 
Did too much and now my stricture is very painful, was up the entire night and didn't get any meaningful sleep. While they continue to fell our old growth forests residents downstream have been complaining about blue green algea in the lower lakes which they never experienced before. The area is changing fast, and no different than what is happening to the Amazon.
 
8C and have been putting the fire on each evening, could you share some of your warmth with us Chris? I went easy yesterday, moved one load of wood, and ate small portions. Feeling better today, I wonder if it was a water mellon seed, they call them seedless but there are still those white seeds although soft they still don't break down much from digestion.
 
cool and blustery again..It's the start of the meterelogical (sp ?) Autumn this weekend and temps are set to drop a wee bit during the week......I can't wait to pack all the summery clothes away.....D., has been wearing her summer stuff on top of her winter woollies for just such a change in the weather.
 
No leaks , new motor performed well and got a nice feed of fresh fish despite the efforts of fools on jet skis and suicidal juveniles in tinnies. It was fun but completely exhausting. Ron.
 
Happy autumn, Carol. I hope you enjoy it. I quite like Autumn, but then i hibernate in January, February and half of March. It's been lovely today, and my neighbour was good enough to come and help me with my garden. Well, actually he did it for me, lol. I actually caught sight of a mummy hedgie with her hoglets last night. they aren't so small now.
 
Into the second day of spring. 29c today , 30 c forecast for Thursday and 31c Friday. 69% of the state is already drought declared and no rain in the foreseeable future. The weather is a bit grim. Sending thoughts to the Carribean hurricane victims. Ron.
 
very hot for the next few days. We have critical fire danger warnings out wit strong north westerly winds and high temps. You can see the vegetation browning off daily. Stanthorpe and surrounding areas are on a 100 litre per day per person water restrictions. Not sure how they are going to get out of the spot they are in. The clowns in government have not built any new dams in the last twenty years. Ron.
 
It can't make up it's mind what to do today but there's a definite slight Autumnal chill.Although the winter duvet was snuggly it was far too warm for comfort.I spent most of the night with bits of me sticking out.I'm not going to change it though in case there's a drop in night temps.Can't be doing with the faff so it's on until at least the end of April 2020.....
 
Fires burning south and west of Brisbane. Conditions to get worse over the next couple of days with strong hot winds around 30 knots. Several areas were evacuated today. I was going to fish tomorrow but it will be too hot and wild. Ron.
 
Sunny, windy, definitely chillier. Still got hedgepigs around. Washing on the line blowing nicely, no heating on as yet. But definitely got the smell of autumn on the winds. Managed to fill my garden waste bin today with the stuff my neighbour chopped down for me. With the garden waste all strewn over the whole of my front and back gardens i'm surprised the hedgies found their way through to the feed stations. It's looking far better.

My fushias have finally, after four years of new garden to them, managed to flower in summer, not winter, and my nasturtium is only just flowering, as is one beautiful blue morning glory. My two conker trees are around 18 inches and grown from the conkers i planted. I'm just pleased i've made it this far, despite the pain and crap mindset at the moment.


My vets tell me both my girls are showing their age and have lost weight. Bit like me really. Haha, we'll just have to see how old we can get together.
 
Wow, sharp drop, Buff. It's chilly this morning outside, but at least it's sunny.

Hope to pootle about the garden doing some smaller things before Autumn. My neighbour has made such a good indent in my jungle garden that i think i just need to tidy a few bits here and there, then just wait for all the leaves to fall.

I think i'm ready to hibernate. It's been so stressful this Summer am wanting to just slumber down for the next 6 months and try and get as well as possible.
 
12c today.I'm considering putting the fan away and putting the table lamp back in it's place.The evenings are closing in fast,8 to 8-30sh and I like a cosy lamp on.Glad I left the new duvet on the bed.Temp. dropped to 5c last night.

A pleasant 33 C in Brisbane, but slightly cooler on the coast. Still no rain forecast. Not looking to a summer of bush fires for the folks that dwell on the mainland. Last week was interesting getting a 3m+ Scrub Python our from my garden shed. When bagged he weighed around the15kg mark. The arrest took place without incident. 'Montague P' is now serving his time on some spare island land 3 km away.
 
Wow, Merv, i have had nothing but millions of spiders webs all over my garden this summer. I've been flipping my hair and panicking each time i hit one. I'd be no good with a 15kg snake!

It is noticeably colder today. I also have felt the 'shift' towards Autumn. I think its the shorter days and the air a tiny bit damp. Will be putting the leccy blanket back on today.
 
house losses in QLD up to 17 . More in northern NSW. One of their bush firebrigade officers was caught by a sudden wind change last night. His fire truck was destroyed and he is in a critical condition in hospital with severe burns. The wind is still gusting to 70 kph in some areas and several fires are still out of control with a lot of evacuations. It is getting very scary for a lot of people with conditions so bad so early. Ron.

It does seem that Autumn is here a little cooler during the day I too still have the summer duv on not sure what to do as I get hot enough during the night.
I am sorry to read of the distruction the fires are causing please stay safe Ron.
I am sooo glad i dont live were there are snakes of any kind, i am not fond of spiders either there has been quite a few big ones this year and the snails
are huge.

My reptile friends are very welcome to hang out in my trees and cull the flying fox population, but NOT in my shed. Some places are sacred. This one was a male which are puny in comparison with the ladies which can grow in excess of 5 metres. The relatively warm winter we had accounted for his early Spring arrival.

Warm and clear today. Increasing wind this afternoon dissipated the smoke coming fro numerous mainland locations. The fire problem in SE Queensland and northern New South. Wales is far from resolved, this summer will be a challenging one.

It's a fine day.no complaints. But although the grass and trees are still green,there's a noticeable amount of fallen leaves lying around.Chestnuts on the trees are still green but they look bigger than usual... Many years ago,.I remember my younger brother enthusiastically .trying to dislodge some ripe chestnuts with our dad's "borrowed "chisel and ending up with a trip to hospital for stitches in a split head.
You're invincible when you're a kid eh ? Did anyone play conkers ?
 
Its been a good year for berries and seeds which is feeding into the mouse baby boom. They have been well fed for awhile now and the mice have been reproducing leading to a population explosion. The young are moving in to make nests. Snakes and anything else that eat mice are welcome. In a month from now most of the food sources will have been eaten and then comes the die off with the wet cold weather before the snows come. Today is going to be a nice day in the mid teens.
 
Another hard day expected for exhausted fire fighters with winds gusting to 40 knots from the west and very low humidity. Over the weekend the 90year + heritage listed Binna Burra lodge in the Gold coast hinterland was completely destroyed by fire. There are numerous fires still burning out of control in SE Qld and northern NSW. There is no sign of rain for the next month. Quite a bit of the remaining water supplies have been used trying to save homes. Ron.

Nature takes care of things much better than humans.Mice have short lives anyway,so as long as it's a happy one we shouldn't begrudge them.....
 
Winds gusting up to 75 kph. A lot of fires still burning. One started just to the north of me . It is quite a bad one and there were evacuations ordered as soon as the fire brigade arrived. This is the earliest and worst fire season on record. We have school hols starting in a few weeks. I hope none or the little darlings decide it would be fun to start a fire. Ron.

I don't mind mice its rats that I hate, I hope your house is ok Ron we have had some seriously freaky weather this last few years I don't think it is going
to improve either.
I have seen on the news that we are going to get the Beast from the East again this year we will need our winter duvets then.
The weather on Sunday was a lovely sunny day today we are back to wet & miserable.

12C and expecting rains. I cut down another dead tree for firewood and moved more from the pile below up to the house. Going to put tarps on the piles by the house later on. Ron that is a tragic loss one that cannot easily be replaced if ever. I had to look up the lodge online and that place was beautiful.
 
The fire just south of Noosa to the north east of me got completely out of control last night and destroyed ten homes. Residents at Noosa heads and Noosa junction have been put on evacuation alert and all the schools in the area are closed today. It is getting a bit close to home. A southerly gale is forecast for today but still no rain in sight. Ron.

Some good news from the Noosa fire. The Authorities completely overestimated the damage with only one house completely destroyed and another badly damaged. They put their miscalculation down to the fact that the fire fighters were caught in a full on ember storm. You could not see because of the thousands of flying embers , apparently it looked like everything was on fire. I am glad for the owners. The fire is still burning just as savagely tonight. It was heading for a saltwater lake which would have stopped it . Unfortunately the wind changed direction as did the fire and it is once more racing thru vegetation in front of a gale force sou-easter. Our firefighters are unbelievable. Ron.

It still sounds horrendous yes the firemen & women do a tremendous job we don't always give them the credit they deserve.
I have a fear of fire a little burn is painful so what it must be like to get full thickness burns must be torture.
Please keep us informed on how it is going.

Lovely day here, not so warm. I've had my heating on briefly early mornings. I have also put my electric blanket on again. I shall be changing the duvet set to brushed cotton next sheet change.

those wildfires everywhere are just awful. I'm so pleased it never really happens in Britain. We rarely have homes threatened by fire.

I like mice, they're quite cute, but i don't like rats. Their longer pink tails and yellow teeth do nothing for me.
 
With a little break from the strong winds the fir fighters were able to get most of the uncontrolled blazes back under control. An increase in humidity is not harming their efforts. Well done guys and girls A lot of Australia would be one big pile of ashes without you. Ron.
 
Ron,it looks like that's going to be the norm from now on.The whole world is in chaos and I believe it's too late to save it.

13c here and cloudy....Being in a temperate climate we don't have the scarey fires etc.But flooding is beginning to be a problem in some place in the UK. I think that's down to bad management and a "Oh,it'll never happen here" attitude

The weather here in good old Lancashire is quite pleasant this morning did some early shopping.
I have been watching the cricket have got really into it, prefer it to football.

Beautiful day, probably caused by me putting all my winter bedding on yesterday. Snug and warm at night. I sincerely hope we have some more of this. It had turned quite nippy in the mornings and evenings. Had heating on for part of yesterday.

Yep, no real wildfires here thank God. Occasionally a moors fire will break out, usually by carelessness. the rest of the world seems doomed what with mega floods, fires, hurricanes and tornadoes. We are pretty lucky here.
 
The high twenties here. For the most part blue skies, but a slight smoke haze drifting from the mainland. No rain and now rain insight for the next couple of weeks. Sooner, rather than later water restrictions are like to be imposed even if we do receive our reticulated supply from aquifers on nearby N Stradbroke Island. Fortunately, we have both bore water and a rain tank too. However, there is nothing to beat a steady downpour. I always try to keep a reserve of tank water for our kookaburras and all the other varieties of native birds we are blessed with.
 
Not a great forecast for today. We have a front coming thru with our first thunderstorms for the season. The weather bureau is warning that due to low humidity they will probably be dry electrical storms and may increase the current bushfire danger dramatically rather than decrease it. I hope not as I am at the base of an old volcanic plug .The old volcano is Mt Panorama but I usually refer to it as lightning ridge as it seems to attract every wayward lightning strike in the area. Ron.
 
Is Carol on her hols? Hope her hubby is ok. bit unusual for her not to pop on here.

yesterday was another day at Northampton General. My legs were cold under my jeans. We had a fine mist of rain and my Raynauds put in an appearance too.

Today is glorious sunshine, lovely and warm in the sun, but omg, my bungalow is so cold. I wished it faced south.
 
Another summer day coming up, yesterday was a good day to touch up the paint on the truck by the cab corners and fenders where the sand and dirt flies up from the tires and road. Next month it goes in for its annual rust proofing. Nice day for the logging crew too, the noise is loud echoing up the empty valley which was an ancient old growth forest up until now.
 
North Straddie, Ron. Macleay Island, my nook, overlooks it. I know the area well from my sailing days. The Guinness and Oyster days were great at the Little Ships Club-so named after the'escape' from. Dunkirk. If it advances southwards, then we will get some smokey days! Pleasant here today, with some well-needed rain last night. Pity that the storm apparently caused the fires, usually it is the local bushfire brigade conducting 'back burns. and no I am not kidding, Cheers M
 
Pardon my error the news identified it wrongly. I haven't done much travelling in the bay. I've only fished up as far as the bar between the two stradbrokes . I should have realised that the island in the tv shot was too wide to be south stradies. That's what happens when you are nearly at seventy. How come you recognised it Merv :)

I keep seeing different stories about the weather at the moment it is lovely a little cold first thing then it warms up nicely.
I have also read people with Asthma should be careful this week as there are mould spores around.
Merv S & Ron hope you both are safe the fires don't seem to be getting any better.
Spooky hope you are ok also read your post on hospital visit we seem to spend more time at hospital & doctors then at home.
