Uhm.... O.k...

I don't really know how to put this...

I had a BM and it was like almost D but not completely and it didn't pass easily, but what worries me is that there was a lot of white pus in it. It wasn't mucusy, it was just pus.

Has anyone had a similar experience or a clue as to what this means and if I should be doing something about it?

Sorry for the TMI but i'm really worried.

EJ will occasionally have the mucous but I've not seen any white pus!! Any chance it could be something different you've eaten?

I would definitely call your doc. Never hurts to get their opinion on this kind of thing. Keep us updated on what they say!

First of all, I haven't seen a "normal" poo in the last three years.
I think it is normal to see mucus when having CD.

Yes I've had that several times-from a bowel infection. You know how the colon gets like ridges and pitted from Crohn's? Well, I occasionally have these pockets get infected, and when they break open you see the pus. It's usually when this happens in the sigmoid area.

Flagyl usually clears it up within a week or so. Please get it checked, it couldn't hurt to make sure it's not a fistula. They basically treat them the same way, though, but sometimes you need other antibiotics, too, like Cipro.

And remember, there's no such thing as TMI on this board-lol!

I currently have a fistula and an abscess, I sometimes will get white/off white pus-type discharge. I think it is from the fistula/abscess.
As for the BM's that are hard to pass but they are not really D, not sure if you are having the same problem but sometimes I feel like I need to go, but then I go and nothing is coming and I have to strain to pass it and it is usually a small amount, mixed with a lot of mucus, my surgeon said it was because of the inflammation in my rectal area due to my fissure. Probably a combo of the fistula and fissure. Sucks either way

Would definitely get it checked out though to make sure nothing more serious is going on.

I'm going to my doc tomorrow to ask about my white pus stuff. I just recently started getting it a couple weeks ago when I had a flare-scare. I think it might have been from a partial obstruction. I remember reading somewhere it had to do with scar tissue, which is where I assume I had too much inflamation and it caused a narrowing. I'll find out more soon though!

Hello!

I had the same thing a couple of years ago before I had my Ileostomy done. I had a narrowing (a stricture) in my rectum, thus not allowing things to pass easily, even with D. I suggest you get this looked at, as you can develop an abscess or worse, a blockage. Maybe ask for a colonoscopy this way your doctor can see what the issue may be.

Good luck and keep us posted! :)

Hey everyone! Thanks for the replies.

Jessica, will you please tell me what your doc says. I can only get an appointment to see my doctor end of January. You know what, I think it was stringy. lol!!!!!

I did have some D this morning which is not one of my regular crohns symptoms, but havent had any more visible pus. Maybe it was just something I ate.

I might have to make an appointment anyway because my current meds aren't helping me at all. Maybe i'll go in Jan when i'm back from vacation. Sounds to me like I might have an abcsess or fistula or something. I've never had any of that before though so i'm kinda clueless.

Ok, so just came back from my doc not too long ago. I have other issues besides this stringy stuff so bare with me here.

We talked about my Crohn's possibly moving up to my small intestine. I'm having a small bowel series to look for strictures. He also mentioned infections and fistulas.

So... yay for tests? lol Who knows, I'm just trying to get through one thing at a time.

He didn't exactly give me a definitive "it's because of this" kind of answer.

Hope that somehow helps. <3

hmm...Yeah o.k, I think the fact that he mentioned fistulas and infections might be a clue. Thx anyway, i'm going to have to make an appt with my Gi- for the most part to DEMAND he put me on different meds. lol!

You ladies should have at least be given some Flagyl in between the appointments and tests! These things have a way of getting real ugly real fast, and even though no one likes antibiotics, it's better than ruined vacations (I've had it happen, no fun) or having your symptoms suddenly get worse on say, Christmas morning when no GI will be available (yep, that's been me,too).

Sometimes the doctors think if we're not complaining loud enough it isn't serious. Hope you ladies get some answers soon!

You know what i'm gonna do Jeannette, i'm gonna finish up my entocort and sulfa for this month and then i'm gonna phone my GI and whine and moan like he has never heard before in his life. I NEED SOME RELIEF for goodness sake! Is that too much to ask for??

And you know what, thats my biggest fear, getting really sick on vacation, and having no one to help me. urgh I hate this disease.

I hate how the doctors play that whine game. I hate whining and complaining. He should realize that since he'll go months without getting a phone call from me. I'll deal with the pain before I bitch. That's how I got into this mess afterall! Sheesh.

OMG I now exactly how you feel. I never ever call my GI unless it is very urgent, so phoning him 3 or 4 times a month must tell him SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!!
