Surgery consult next Wednesday to discuss my permanent ileostomy.

Weird emotions right now but deep down, very relieved and looking forward to feeling better.

I'll be seeing you all lots in the Stoma subforum in the coming weeks!

Aw Amy
I'm sorry it's come to this but.... if it makes you well again then I hope for your sake, it puts you into remission and pain free forever!
Making that decision is hard enough, and I know it's nothing like yours, but I concluded that having a total hysterectomy would keep me pain free forever, and it has, nearly 11 years later, I'm so glad I did it.
I wish you well Amy, and keep smiling!
Good Luck xxxxx

me too.. it's a big thing to accept, but when compared to the suffering you have to put up with, having a stoma is a positive thing..

please don't hesitate in asking in here absolutely anything you're worried about regarding the stoma - those of us who have one will definitely have gone through every emotion and thought that you might too.. and we sometimes have tips that the nurses don't tell you...

good luck with the appointment next week :)

It sure seemed like that was the direction you were heading Amy. I think you've had a temp before right? So you know what to expect. I hope it gives you a lifetime of relief. I know it'll take some getting used to but it can't take that beautiful smile away...maybe it'll make your inside match your outer projection:). Good luck!!

Thanks, everyone! I am eerily calm about it all. If I had never had surgery (or four) before, and never had a bag before I would probably be freaking out right now. But I feel like "Alright, let's get on with it." Very accepting. And not as defeated as I felt a week ago.

I am REALLY looking forward to feeling better and having a life again. And not shitting myself. And being off meds. And looking for a good granny-pants bikini to cover my bag!!!

And looking forward to being part of the stoma club, where the cool kids hang out! ;)

xo - Amy

Cute styles but when did bikini tops become $130?!?!? Just for the top!!!!

I got my Lands End catalog today and lots of cute stuff in there, too.

I'm actually excited!!!

-A

I hope everything works out well for you. :) I am glad that you are happy.

I hope this brings you to having a healthy pain free future!!

Good luck with the consult next week. I'm going on one year - it's a tough adjustment but I can finally say it's a part of me now. It sure beats being sick!!

Amy, here's hoping you are on the way to a pain free future! Best of luck to you, keep us posted. I'm sure you will continue to be a source of great support, and an inspiration to so many of us.
Misty

Amy - Yeah...VS is pretty expensive, especially some of their suits. I have never bought one from them. I forgot about Land's End. They DO have cute stuff!

Hi Amy, sorry for the delay in replying here (back in hospital). Any how, glad that your GI appt went as well as it did, and that they are starting to put thing's into motion to get you as well as possible. Wishing you all the best for you appt with surgeon on Weds. Will be thinking of you. Keep smiling x

Oh, Andrea! I'm so sorry you are back in the hospital! Sending hugs and good thoughts your way. Get better soon!

March 15 is the date for my surgery!

Doc says it will be "pretty complicated" .... now I am getting a little nervous!

Sorry ameslouise to hear about the surgery, but I'm glad to hear that it will get you back to good health!

Dan

Did he explain what exactly will be complicated about it? Hope it all goes well for you, you really deserve some peace and relief from all of this! x

It IS complicated, but these guys do it EVERYDAY. Please, dont worry. Go in as healthy as possible, and you will come thru it! Dont forget you have alot of support on here! Worry is the worse thing for stress, but you know that. Of course you are worried, but...I'm sure you are in good hands. Stay positive and as hopeful as possible. We're with you! (well, alot more experienced people than me are...good thing!!)

Ok, this is random, but last night my husband mentioned there was a special lunch going on at his school where MBA alumni working with the White Sox are coming to talk with people interested. My husband told me he immediately asked for the day off at work (he's a HUGE baseball fan) and registered for the lunch, which is on March 15th.

And I said..."Hmm...there's something else important going on the 15th." And I realized today that it was your surgery! When you posted the date for it I thought to myself "I need to remember that and put it on my calendar so I can send her well wishes! :)

Just thought you should know! ;)

Awww, Marisa, that is so sweet! Thanks for thinking of me! :)

Ian - the complicated part will be that I have had my j pouch for 8 years. It is likely adhered to everything else in there. Along with any other adhesions and scar tissue they are going to fine - it's going to take a lot verbs to get the pouch out without damaging my other parts.

Emergency surgery is so much easier - no time to think!!

I started making a pile of reading material for the hosp and treated myself to some flannel hospital pajamas and gown! Might as well make the most of it!

- Amy

Ah okay that makes sense. My fingers are well and truly crossed for you! Will you be taking in your laptop so you can keep us all updated from your hospital bed? Good for curing boredom too! :D

And I think if there was ever a time to treat yourself, it's now. Why stop at pj's? GO NUTS!

Damn straight! I will be watching Netflix streamed to my laptop, shopping online and of course talking to all of you!! ;)

Just bought a new bed today! We needed one and what better time than right before my surgery?! Can't wait to recuperate on my new memory foam mattress!!

Woohoo! Is it Tempurpedic? We have one and love it! Now that my abscess is gone and isn't keeping me from sleeping properly. ;)

They can get a bit warm from the body heat. We actually put one of those cheap non-memory foam toppers on top of the mattress to cut back on the warmth.

Hey Amy

Just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you and will be thinking of you on 15th :)
Keep in touch. Big big hugs to you :)

Love

Thanks, everyone!

Joe - My surgery will be at Presbyterian in Philadelphia. That's where all my prior surgeries where, though my previous surgeon has long since retired.

I feel really comfortable there. It's like home to me.

-Amy

PS Vicky, I replied in your thread. And while I hope you might be able to avoid surgery for a little while, at least until you're ready mentally, it would be lovely to go thru surgery with you! :)

Lots of luck to you! We will both be healed up in time to start looking at swimsuits for this summer:)

Good luck, Amy! Hope everything will go well and the "complications" turn out to be nothing in the big scheme of things. =)

Okay, my surgery can't come fast enough - 3 days and counting.

Last night I finally got a decent night sleep (found my husband's cough medicine with codeine...). Unfortunately, I slept so soundly, I slept right through an accident. Got cleaned up and an hour later, same thing.

Total tally - two pairs of underwear in the trash, one permanently stained fitted sheet and a big stain on the bathroom throw rug.

I wish the surgery was TOMORROW!!!!!

- Amy

Hi Amy
Good luck to you. And may i say of all the amazing people on here you are right up there with the "amazingest". Hope you have a great and 'normal' life ahead of you!!

Hiya Amy

Just in case I don't get chance, I'm sending a big squashy hug to you now, thinking of you, it's even on my calendar!
Good luck, this is gonna change your life forever!
We love you tons
xxxxx

Amy,

try soaking in Oxyclean. I have gotten stains out you wouldn't believe. I swear by it and prefer Oxyclean over bleach any day -- the smell of bleach alone is a turn off for me.

Hugs up front on the surgery, Tuesday's coming right up. :)

Heike

Just wanted to also say incase I cannot get on here tomorrow:

Good Luck with the surgery :) I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Hey Amy

Justed wanted to say I'm thinking of you and wanted to wish you luck :)

Big hugs

Thanks, everyone!!!! Surgery time is 11:30 am tomorrow, have to check in at 9:30, need to leave for hosp at 7:45 am.... so it will all go very quickly!

I adore you all for your support. These last two weeks have been so much easier because of all of you!!

xo - Ames

Good luck tomorrow, Amy! Sending lots and thoughts and prayers your way!

Once you feel up to it, please let us know how you are doing. We will all be thinking of you!

I was just about to pop in here and ask what time your surgery was! :)

I will definitely be thinking about you all day tomorrow! You are awesome, Amy. You have been through a lot. Here's to many years of remission. ;)

Give yourself time to rest, but definitely let us know how you are doing once you are feeling up to it.

Amy you've been so good to me so I have to show you my support even thought I'm currently a mess. I hope it goes really well for you and know you'll be fine. I know I seem hypocritical saying that, but you've known so much misery so you'll only see this as a releif, and you have a life (spouse, job, home) that you'll be able to appreciate once you're well. I wish I was in the situation to have your perspective, even though you've had to suffer to get it. Anyway, you're remarkable and deserve a good life. I hope you get it :)

Hey Amy, I'm looking forward to reading your wonderful success story when you are up to updating!:) I'll be thinking about you tomorrow!

I just want to wish you the very best of luck ! I hope this surgery is an amazingly positive change in your life !!

Oh Amy I love your sense of humour :) You're a star!!!
Good luck hunny, will be thinking of you :)

Big hugs

Paula
