I was wondering if anyone's employers have made any adjustments for them?

I'm returning to work after sick leave and have been asked to advise them of any adjustments that would help me. I'm so nervous about returning I'm having difficulty thinking of any.

I have an office job and think I will ask if I could have flexible hours, so that if I am having a bad morning I can start later or if I'm feeling well I can work a longer day and make up my hours.

I'd welcome anyone else's experiences that may be helpful in my own situation.

I currently work in retail and am constantly running the register. Most times I am all alone without a fellow coworker close to me. I expect to be treated like everyone else and likewise, do the same amount of work. But, it is known that if I need the restroom that either I can abandon my register or someone will be right there to relieve me.

I don't know your situation, but I would make sure it's understood in case you need to abandon your post. Here is a website I found that may have some good info for you.

hi well whats reasonable can depend on your company or boss, my old boss thought it was reasonable to have me lump stuff around all day shortly after surgery n make no adjustments what so ever for myself or the other 2 girls with crohn's not even a mirror to change pouch or lockable cupboard to put our products in to change if need be in the toilets .. there are some laws for it but some employers wont do anything if they can get away with it... hope your employer is much more considerate than mine was !!

In the UK I understand that your employer has to make allowances and adjustments if you're going back to work after sickness. When I was first diagnosed I was moved to a desk nearer the toilet, and I was allowed extra time to get to work in the mornings when I used to at my worst and make my time up. Its a case of talking to your bosses openly and tell them what you need, and they should accommodate you the best they can

i agree yes they should, but mine wouldn't give you the snot of her hankie.. i see your not far from me there in bolton, im in radcliffe..

If you're in the United States, your employer may be trying to met the requirements of the ADA, the American's with Disability Act. They may also be concerned about their future liability under the Act. Nolo Press is a good place to start for more information: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/free-books/employee-rights-book/chapter7-8.html
