Hi folks-

I want to the bathroom this morning and there was blood with my stool. I am used to seeing bright red liquid blood occasionally from hemorroids, but this am it was more like little blobs with little fibers, and a little darker. I'm just curious if anyone has knowledge about this. I am worried that Crohns has come back.

Thanks.

Sounds like bleeding from the lower GI tract which is good news in that a Colonoscopy should be able to detect the source. (Much tougher to locate when bleeding is occult in which case capsule endoscopy and/or (balloon assisted) enteroscopy might be appropriate -- although these could be problematical with Crohn's because of strictures and/or deep ulcerations.) It could be a Crohn's recurrence or possibly even bleeding from the sutures of your resection which can occur years after. Likely not an emergency but see a GI as soon as you can

I also recently had a fecal calprotectin test and it was slightly elevated (196 when 50 is considered upper limit of normal). Yes...time to see GI.

Hi Adam,

Yes see your GI! Sorry to hear you are anxious about it but understandable as a flare isn't much fun.

I hope it works out well!

I think the problem is I worded it improperly. I meant bleeding around the anastomosis, not the cut in the abdomen. Typically it happens at most a few months after. But I'm an example of leakage two years later. My GI said "it's rare but it does happen, like to you"

I have had a resection-2 years ago. I often feel that adhesions are making things move around in stop and go fashion-just my own theory (we never really know what the hell is going on in there, do we?) I also did have some external bleeding (hems) yesterday, so it may have just been clotted from earlier. I'll still call the GI office tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback.
