Hiya,

My names laura. I have been having trouble with my bowels for around 11 years now. First I was diagnosed as IBS, then UC, then Ulcerative Proctitis, Then UC again and now they arent sure :/
Last monday I went for an emergency appointment as have been rather poorly for a few months now and the doctor put a finger up there and found a lump. He booked me in for an xray there and then, a flex-stig tube on tuesday and a CT scan on weds. The tube found a lot of lower inflammation and so so many lumps that they then said I needed an MRI...which I had today.

Im just concerned because I didnt have to drink anything or get injected with anything? It took around 25 minutes, they strapped this thing over my pelvis and moved me into the scanner, did what ever they needed to do, then moved me abit furthur up and took more images then abit furthur down again for more images. They have told me they are looking for a cause for the lumps/inflammation but now im worried that because I didnt drink the fluid or get injected with the dye- something may not show up?

Any help would be great

Thankyou

Laura

Hi Laura
and welcome to the forum.
The tests you have had so far will provide your doctors with lots of information to start with.Have you also had some blood work ordered?
Having analysed those results they will formulate a course of action.A CAT scan provides lots of information and may be done with or without contrast.
They may decide to do a colonoscopy it will depend .
If there are a lot of lumps as you describe it is possible that they want to avoid any substances that may contribute to or cause obstruction.
You need to ask your docs these questions when you see them next.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Hiya,

Thanks for your reply! Ive had 3 colonoscopys in the past and all of them have showed no inflammation higher than the stigmoid colon. I have also have a barium xray in the past that showed no inflammation and around 8 flexi stig tubes that have only ever shown one ulcer.

Despite all this, I am incredibly ill and have been for a long time. Recently I have lost 2 stone and I am unable to eat a proper meal without being VERY poorly the next day- even if its a small portion and I bleed so much.

I have read somewhere now that contrast is not always needed for an MRI so thats eased my concerns x
