How do I choose the right medication?

Here is what's still confusing. All the research that I did on the stronger medication options state that it's intended for treating moderate to severe Crohn's cases. After both recent colonoscopies, my doctor told me that based on what he sees, my Crohn's is mild to moderate. Am I looking to...

How do I choose the right medication?

I am confronted with a difficult choice, and I simply can't decide. Hoping the Crohn's community can help out. Overall, my symptoms are pretty mild. Sure, there is occasional bleeding, pain, diarrhea, but overall, these are things I can live with with relatively minimal impact on my life...

New to Crohn's and needs advice!

Samlucy, As you can see even from this brief line-up of responses, you are not going to find a straight answer you may be seeking for. With IBD, it takes a lot of experimentation and attention to detail to figure out what foods will make your symptoms better or worse. To complicate matters...

Study shows those diagnosed with Crohn's eat less fibre, more refined sugar

Actually, I can believe it. My Crohn's symptoms came on during the time of my life when I ate fast food almost daily, over-indulged in sweets, and in general, gained 25 lbs over a period of 1.5 years. Also, I are very little fiber, so this study makes some sense to me. Now, I completely...

    Does food make Crohn's worse?

I am on SCD, so clearly, I am of the opinion that there is some connection between food and CD. However, one of the first things that my doctor (leading Dr. in this field in Twincities, MN) told me was that no matter what I eat, I can't make the disease better or worse. So here is what I...

How do YOU deal with the blues?

Hi designdiva and welcome to the forum. When I was diagnosed I was dealing with a lot of heavy doses of depression. Frankly, it still creep up to me once in a while. I contemplated my options with medication, counseling, etc, etc... and here is what I had decided: 1. I already take enough...

My boyfriend with crohn's low sex drive?

Here is another guy's point of view... Leave him alone and give hims some space. I guarantee that he already feels guilty about not being able to satisfy your needs. By talking to him openly about it you are risking making him feel even worse. Just imagine the pressure he is under: 1. His...

    Cooking for SCD

SCD = Specific Carbo. Diet. It was originally written up and published by Elaine Gottschall, and it focuses on starving the kind of bacteria that may contribute to flare-ups and symptoms we all suffer. If you really want to learn about it, I recommend buying her book. You can get more...

    Cooking for SCD

Hi, For those of you following SCD, I thought I would pass a few pearls of wisdom I had acquired while on this diet: 1. Try the diet. Once I started it, I felt truly better for the first time since the original diagnose. It's not THAT bad, if you put in in context of feeling better. 2. Do...

    New to all things Crohn's!

Hi Amy, welcome to the forum. I would definitely second the comment from Pen about Entocort. I recently attended an IBD educational summit in Minneapolis, MN, and distinctly remember Entocort discussed as one of the safest, least side-effects steroid out there. Personally, I was on it and it...

    How do you eat?

OK, you guys are beginning to irritate me with sounding too much like my wife! :) Yes, I guess a food diary seems like a logical solution, though I am really not a "keeping a diary" kind of a guy. Thanks everyone for your advice! -- Yanick

    Crohn's and Panic Attacks

Thanks Dan, Some times I feel like I am stuck in a Catch 22. Panic attacks create environments of high stress, which can cause / make inflammation more severe. On the other hand, symptoms of Crohn's can cause panic attacks, closing the cycle. It's actually hard to tell which one starts...

    Crohn's and Panic Attacks

Hi, Does anyone know if it's common to have panic attacks with Crohn's? I go through periods when I am fine, and then I have some days when I am constantly feeling dizzy, freaked out, and extremely irritable. I am sick of Crohn's, and I only just got started last summer. Every time I think I...

    How do you eat?

OK, here is a question for the group. I am currently working on figuring out how to eat with Crohn's. What I mean to say is what to eat. How to decide what foods I should or should not eat. I read the "Maker's Diet" and now I am hearing about some Carbs diet (please, give more information if...

    Food/remission

Interesting reading all these different points of view. I am continuing to be amazed that in spite of all the research, it's hard to find two Crohn's patients who have been told the same thing. My doctor told me that no matter what I eat, food can never trigger a flare. Also, he told me that...

    Sushi anyone?.. anyone...

I have been eating sushi through the flare, and found no problems, as long as I don't over eat and avoid nori wrappers. There are definite risks with eating raw fish, so it's important to only eat sushi in places where you KNOW the fish is fresh.

My husband is DRIVING ME CRAZY

Paula, Colt, I have something to say to both of you. Tell your insignificant others that unless they begin to take your needs more seriously, they will be staring at a business end of a divorce attorney. I am fortunate to have a wife who tries to support me in any way that she can, and it's...

    Mangosteen Juice

I also read about the digestive system benefits of the Mangoustie rind. I dried the rind after eating the fruit (which is low in fiber and utterly delicious) and then I put it through a course grinder. Then, I used it to steep in hot water like tea, and you get a pretty good tasting beverage...

    Mangosteen Juice

Where can I buy mangoustine juice? I found an Asian store where I can buy fresh mangoustines (at a reasonable price too), and in small quantities it seems that I can eat them with little difficulty. However, I think that juice might be less risky. -- Yanick
