Well, this is pretty embarassing, but if anyone has anything to say that may be helpful, please do!

I recovered from my first/only hemorrhoidectomy in February of this year. I had 4 external skin tags. It seemed to heal up pretty well, and in decent time. But the hemmorhoids have been slowly sneaking back...
So... Here it is December, only 10 months after "healing", and they have gotten so terrible (difficult to sit, stand, etc; extrememly painful to have BMs (worse to wipe)) I'm wondering if surgery would have to be done again. I know they are external and there are several. I'm almost wondering if one has burst, also because it feels so tender (for the past 2+ weeks) and there is leakage that looks like a mixture of blood and ??. I, of course, have tried to prevent them by using otc things such as tucks, etc, but to no avail.

Anyways, here is my question... The first hemorrhoidectomy was apparently a failure. I know there are a few other procedures that they can do. Anyone have a suggestion as to which may help more?

Thanks so much...

Are you sure these are not an abscess from fistula? When a fistula gets blocked up, it causes an abscess - a tender / painful lump. And they tend to drain with a mixture of blood and pus. Just a thought, I dont know much about hemroids. That's one problem I never had.

After a 35 year ordeal with Crohn's, my mother never goes near toilet paper. Her surgeon recommended a spray to use to clean the area and then pat gently with gauze. After my fistulotomies, I would draw a hot bath to be re
ready to get in to.... toilet paper can be evil:devil:
Good luck with getting comfortable!! There are many here who know just how you feel!:poo:

:calmo: Seriously this is not an understatement! This totally makes skin tags/fistulas/hemmerhoids feel so much better!

I agree with the above post that asked if you're sure it isn't a fistula. It kinda sounds like it, a different level of pain and discomfort than hemmerhoids, not that those aren't painful, too. Or skin tags can get infected, which really hurts, too-a round of Flagyl helps knock it out for me.

Hmmm... I should probably look into that; I wasn't really aware of the differences, but what you're describing sounds exactly like the problem I am having. There is leakage. Looks like blood/pus. VERY tender. Thank you!

@ susanfrances: Yeah, no way I can wipe. Only blot. And that alone is AGONIZING. But I do what I can. Lol..

Bad news. Went to my family doc who sent me to a colon-rectal surgeon who took a look at it (I've never been so close to screaming my lungs out at a doc's office in my life). Well, he says they are not hemmies (damn)... he says it's probably scar tissue that didn't heal properly from my last hemorrhoidectomy (10 months ago) and that it may be something viral. He wants me to go back to my GI, get a colonoscopy, and come to him after so he can do a biopsy and go from there... I don't know what to make of it all, it seems like such a lot to go through, and I'm in such pain, and I'm really scared... help please?? :'(

Sorry to hear this. But, maybe it's better than having a fistula. This is confusing and I guess you gotta trust the docs on this one. Did he say why he wants you to have the colonoscopy? Or has it just been a while?

If you don't trust them, get a 2nd opinion. I'm sure you want another doc torturing you down there. I know the feeling so all I can say is be strong and good luck. Let us know the outcome.

I have to agree with Mountaingem on the Calmoseptine. It always soothed my skin tags when they were irritated. It also makes a nice barrier, so wiping is easier.

CDDad - Yeah, it's pretty confusing. They have set a date for my colonoscopy, and after that is done (by my GI), the surgeon is going to do a biopsy, I guess he's just going to take a little 'sample' (that can't be any fun, lol) and let me know what it is, or something to that effect. Sad to say but I can't wait for my colonoscopy! I just wanna get this over with.

My_Butt_Hurts - I do use the Calmoseptine sometimes, it's pretty great. [I'm totally loving the username, by the way. Got a good laugh out of me even though I'm hurting like crazy!:) ]
