You know, Ezio, I could really hate some people... you do know that dont you... :ylol2:

You can keep the skiing - at least for now. I want to be on the tops of the mountains!

One of mine on Schiehallion - in the Scottish Highlands:

I've never been skiing. I would loove to learn. Not downhill for the sake of it, but cross-country I think would be for me.

Nope. I've gone to the Aquarium once this year, and the zoo twice. My nephew had a birthday party there on Sunday.

It's northern lights, if you were referring to my photo :)

This is the big dipper that I got last weekend .
(You might not be able to see it depending on your monitor, but it's very clear on mine)

I tried to brighten it up on flickr, and it gave me this version.
Not sure which I like better. Changing it on flickr feels like cheating.
I do love how it shows that I almost missed 5 stars due to the trees though.

Is raw in manual mode?

All my pictures are taken in manual mode, but since I've only had the camera from a couple months I still have issues getting my lighting correct. And then there's the night shot... in which your light meter lies to you... so I'm trying to figure out when and where to use use certain settings. I can only take a decent picture if I set my white balance first, and then follow with ISO, shutter speed, and then my aperture using my light meter... its just all so technical.

I'm trying to learn before my digital photography class starts next week... and vacation was good practice... I just still have issues because I'm basically self-teaching.

Sunset over Lake Ontario. The color's not great, but the cloud lines changed by the second. It was really cool to watch.

RAW isn't manual mode. RAW is the output format instead of say JPEG. You keep more of the information in the image in case you want to post process.

Your light meter lies to you? Mine doesn't in the dark .. Glad to see you're learning though.

http://www.digital-photography-school.com is a great resource. I've learned a lot. Also looking at the exif data on Flickr has been really useful for me.

MBH: Thanks! My camera died while I was there, so I need to get a few more really cool ones off mom's camera and I'll post a few more.

Dan: hehe .. nope. We had a map in a bottle on the beach and a buried pirates treasure we did for the kids, and those were in the treasure. :)

Wonder how many 100ths of a sec that was Fen.

I call this ghost horses (merry-go-round) cuz they're blurred out.

Well, you have to have the pic on a website somewhere, like Photobucket. Then, you copy the link location of the picture. Photobucket makes it easy because it's got little drop down windows on the pics that you can copy the link from. Then click on the little yellow box on here that looks like a little mountain with a sun and enter the address in there.

The other way I use is just putting the address in image brackets

Grrr, flickr doesn't seem to work.....will try photobucket I guess.....
I use flickr.
Once you get your pics on there, you have to click on the picture, then click 'all sizes' to get the address or whatever it is. I usually switch it to the medium size, then copy the 2nd link and past it in the box after you click the 'insert image' icon on here.

edit - You did it!
I LOVE how that picture makes you look like your head is about to touch those clouds!

its SO awesome there. i love it. where did you stay?
one of the purposes of going with my dad was to spread the ashes of his parents in the ocean there. they had gone there years and years ago and thats where they wanted to be. ill see if i can find the pic of the leis we tied together in the tree on the beach. it was so beautiful... :)

Yeah, dunno why the link doesn't work as a link, the address is right. I just tried it and had to copy/paste it into the browser

A couple of panoramas I've managed to stitch together this evening...

Those two were quite easy, I use hugin which usually does the hard bits automagically. I think you can get it for windows - I run Linux.

Oh GAWD.....why are you gonna go and put that up there? And what is taking Squealer so looooong to get in here?? I figured she'd have you on instant cell alert..........
What would you say if I had already been emailed my own personal copy, and it has already been printed out and is sitting on my desk at work??
I may need to make more copies as I am sure this one will be quickly ruined by wet smooches.

edit - RATS! I buried that drooly goodness on the last page so now I have to include it here.
Oh, and Peaches - SQUEAL!!!!!

Here are some more Maui pics from years ago - again, taken with a really crappy first gen digital camera.

I am a nut about sunrises and sunsets, so here is a series taken from my in-law's back porch at sunset on different days. Don't let the size of the "hill" in the distance fool you - it is the other half of Maui and it is HUGE.

Ok, that's it for now. I have more from there, but I don't want to post all at once and hog up the post :O)

Hey peaches, great shots, loved the 4th one though amazing!

So these are a few piccies I took the yesterday on my walk over the fens. It's a really hard place to actually photograph as the horizon just disappears into photos and you dont get the sense of scale.

I liked the reflection in the water, could have zoomed in a bit to fill the frame more but then I'd have lost some of the sky/etc.
w.dsc_0026.jpg

Tricky one with the sun just off the edge of the frame. Sometimes I like the lense flare and other times I wish I could get rid of it!
w.dsc_0041.jpg

Hmmm. Electricity pylons. Freud would have a field day with me as I always seem to take pictures of these things.
w.dsc_0055.jpg

Jake makes these shots just soo easy.
w.dsc_0100.jpg

Trees leaves, what's more to say.
w.dsc_0118.jpg

Used fill-in-flash as the sun was behind the leaves. Think it went well.
w.dsc_0128.jpg

Lode mill, got in close with the zoom in wiiiide.
w.dsc_0140.jpg

Pumping station in the Fens, had to poke the camera through the railings to get the shot. Again on wide. Trying to be arty :)
w.dsc_0191.jpg

Autumn colours beside the river cam, think I did it reasonable justice.
w.dsc_0216.jpg

New camera is a Nikon D60, relatively small and lightweight for a D-SLR so I can take it backpacking assuming I ever get back enough fitness/etc.

Nice! I have the D70s from about 3 years back so yours will be a little simpler/smaller than mine, but great fun! Mine would be no good backpacking!
I hope you get back to well enouhg to be getting out and about and taking lovely pictures :)

After all the people who told me to get a Nikon... how could I not!
It's really great very pleased with it. And I can just wrap it in a dry bag with a strap clipped on it and it slips in the side pocket of my rucksack as if it was meant to be - it's actually easy to do that with than my Panasonic bridge which is smaller - the form factor means lense goes in first then one corner of the body. The strap is so I can let go of the bag and it doesn't blow away or the camera hit the deck if hands slip/etc.

Have you joined flickr yet?

I was just curious Beth cause I setup a CF flickr group for us to all share out photos =) It's locked so that you have to be invited, given the nonsense that happened here with MG, I felt it was appropriate to be invite only. If people want to join the group just let me know your flickr info so I can add you.

Plus Beth I wanna look at your exif data cause I'm a nerd haha.

Seemed the best place to post a pic without having to start another thread. I'm not into photography, just like taking cool pics now and again. This is on one of our walls in the living room:

Yes we do, after I posted that I hoped you didnlt take it the wrong way! I am weird too, just in different ways to you! ;)

Captured these all last week.

Edit: I've just spotted how badly I've parked. I might have to run out and repark it :p

Edit2: Disaster! If you look carefuly, you can see my reflection in the chrome on the headlights!
