I just can't take a trick at the moment. Away on a nice family beach holiday having a ball and looking forward to a better year when bam I get shingles. Got the rash all over throat and chest. Hurts like hell and feel sick and tired. Have slept all day the past 3 days. Just completely exhausted. Really down. Just can't seem to get on top of things. Feeling very depressed and worthless.

Oh no Janette. I know how much you were looking forward to your holiday.
Hopefully you'll be on the mend soon and be able to resume beach hi jinks with your family.
It's the pits being sick on holidays.
I hope you feel better soon.

:stinks: That really stinks! Any ideas what caused it yet?

Hope you get on the mend very soon.

Janette, have you been to see a doctor? Shingles should not be taken lightly in someone with a compromised immune system.

I agree with Susan. Shingles can cause all kinds of secondary problems, and I hope you're able to see a doctor soon.

I don't doubt that this must be depressing, Janette...grrr, these sorts of things are NOT supposed to happen on a vacation that you've been looking forward to. Shingles are nasty and painful.

I really hope that you're able to salvage some of your holiday, although it isn't something you can do easily if you're in pain.

Oh no!! You poor thing!!! Definitely get this checked out. Like the others said, shingles is bad stuff.

Hope you get to feeling better soon and that you can enjoy at least some of your vacation...

I've been to the local GP. Been given anti vitals, cyclo something or other. Just want to sleep but do get up and go for afternoon swim. The cold water gives relief the the pain. I decided yesterday to get over it and try to enjoy holiday and then collapse and rest when we get home.

The salt water should help the healing as well.

Isn't it always the case, though! I was a teacher and, like most teachers, would struggle through the school term then, when the holidays arrived, I would come down with the flu.

Oh Janette what a bugger, you poor thing. Shingles just when you go on holiday! I hope the anti virals help quickly. Make sure you don't overdo it though - its important to look after yourself. How are you coping with the heat down there? They just said on the news it was 44 degrees in Adelaide today!!! (thats 111 degrees fahrenheit for the non aussies).
Feeling depressed often goes hand in hand with being sick so hopefully your mood will lift as the shingles improve. In the meantime we'll all be thinking of you and hoping for a speedy recovery.

I kept my spirits up today. Yep it was 46 Celsius here today. Everyone was struggling so we we went on a car trip found a pub and stayed for the day. Nice lunch cool drinks and great air con ( better than the holiday accom). Has cooled tonight thank goodness. Played havoc with rash and headache, but I will not let it get to me.

I had to go to the dentist today in the 41C heat but, on the plus side, I suppose it was better than having the dentist spoil a really nice day.
