Here's a good tip: bananas that have brown spots are easier to digest ( the more brown spots the better), because their difficult to digest carbohydrates have been turned into easier to digest natural sugars.
There was something on here a bit back (maybe on wiki) saying dont eat bananas with brown spots as they have elevated sugars lol. Personally I'll eat them either way but like them without the brown spots
I don't have crohn's, as you know but.......... I eat a banana everyday for my breakfast! Spotty or yellow I don't mind!!!!!!!!! Meg only likes yellow 'nannas! LOL
Love nannas too. I loved smearing them in peanut butter once. Now I have them on the Coles Gluten free bread toasted for lunch, it's yummy and one of the few things I can eat at the moment that I do enjoy.
oh wow.. i didn't know that... I usually see brown and think "eww" .. (I'm actually allergic to bannas, but it doesn't keep me from taking a few bites of them every so often. lol)
I hate unripe bananas. The brown spotty ones look yuck on the outside but I have found that very ripe soft bananas really help to settle me down if I am flaring.
I read (I think in Eating Right for a Bad Gut but can't remember for sure) that green or underripe bananas are a no-no for Crohns & UC so I stick to very ripe bananas. I hate the texture so I usually throw them into a fruit shake.
Spotty bananas are the best! I've been eating lots and lots of them. Easy on the stomach and they give me a boost of energy. I've been meaning to try them in rice or something to mix it up a bit. Don't know if that would taste alright.
