Well, it's official - I'm 38 with Crohn's for 23 years and now it really shows! Went to the dentist yesterday for routine cleaning but it's been about 18 months since my last visit due to a year of sheer craziness, including a fistula and abscess and more surgery :(. Even though I think my poor genes may also contribute to this, I found out yesterday I have 9 - yes 9 - cavities! Holy macaroni :0 I am also a lactose-intolerant Crohn's sufferer and only realized recently that i can actually drink the Lactaid brand milk without incident (if i use it to eat cereal - any cereal - I have symptoms). I have tried to keep up a good vitamin and supplement regimen up over the years but not consistent enough to avoid the inevitable. If I have cavities, I am sure osteoperosis is not far away. I had to have a complete hysterectomy a few years ago and I should be on a calcium regimen anyway.

Well, I guess I better start saving for implants or dentures - only 38 - ugh!

Have a great day ya'll! Stay Strong! You are not alone.

Sillymom in the Sunshine State :rosette1:

Dx: 1989
First Surgery: ER surgery due to perforation; 18" small bowel resection, removal of appendix and ileum
Two more surgeries since then, including November 2011 - abscess and fistula
Perianal abscess (not fun at all)
Symptoms: abscesses/fistulas, cramps, diarrhea (always), nausea and cavities
diet: very limited
Energy: very below average but B's are always normal in bloodwork

Tx:
No maintenance meds at the moment-just antispasm and antinausea
Remicade Rx: Soooooo scared to try this since i have abscesses without warning and fear serious infection

I think getting enough D3, Magnesium and Vitamin K2 is what is needed more than increased calcium for strong bones. Unless you get very little Calcium in your diet

It is far more likely to be deficient in the first three than Calcium. All are needed for the calcium to be used by the body.

Ginger capsules work well for nausea and help digestion among many other benefits

Don't get any Mercury fillings. Last thing us Cronies need is another toxin in our guts.

Good Luck

Dan

Coconut oil kills the bacteria that causes cavities. I think it was Streptococcus Mutans.
I take some and swish it around my mouth. I have plenty of past cavities. Don't need any more.

I just had four cavities filled today. =( They were in between the front teeth, so they drill from behind to fill them.

@Dan - Interesting about the Coconut oil. Going to have to check that out.
