A few weeks ago Devynn was one of 12 lucky kids in Toronto, chosen to go on a shopping spree. This was part of a community project by Target Canada and The Metro Toronto Police. They met at the police station at 7am and were paired up with a police officer. They were given a gift card for $200 and they could spend it on whatever they wanted. Devynn shopped for her two sisters and I. The officer she was paired up with told her to choose something for herself, but she wanted to buy for her family. Other officers were telling her to buy something for herself, but she refused. She went over her limit, but was told not to worry about it, it was covered She was (is) so excited with her purchases and so happy that she had that much money to spend. About a week later, I received a phone call from the lady who ran the program out of the community center that Devynn's name was chosen from. She asked how her shopping spree went, if she had fun and what Devynn had bought for herself. I said she had SO much fun, and she didn't buy anything for herself. The lady said "Oh good! I'm so glad to hear that" She then told me that the officers all fell in love with the little girl who refused to spend any of the $200 on herself. They said she was so sweet and only concerned with buying for her family, and they were so proud of her that they wanted to do something for her for Christmas. Well, the head police officer showed up on Friday with two other officers. They told Devynn that they had decided to raise money to buy her something, because she didn't buy herself anything and she deserved to have something nice. They brought her a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 AND a brand new Double bed (from The Brick) ! We were speechless! They also told her that they raised the money and bought her the tablet and the bed and they found out about a single mother in the area with four children who has cancer. They are using some of the money they raised for Devynn to give this lady and her family a Christmas! She was so happy to hear they were going to help someone else. She told me she would have been happy with just hearing that they were proud of her, and they could have spent all the money on the other family :*) We have contacted the officer to ask if there is anything we can do, she would really like to do something for this family as well. She would like to donate some toys (she has a million stuffies, brand new) or her almost brand new twin bed set, if they would allow us. We are going tomorrow to meet up with the managers of The Brick and take a few pics. I am so incredibly proud of this little girl.
