Did I do wrong?

It has been five years since I retired. Someone called me this morning trying to get me on social security disability. I retired because it was stressful on my body after a resection. So is it wrong to apply for SSDI after five years?

I'd say that any help if possible would be nice and it never hurts to try! Have you done any research on it? It seems like there would be some info that you could find before actually applying so you can decide if you're really interested...

It has been in the back of my mind but when I got that call that is the first action I have taken

I'm with CrossStitchGal. I also had to give up working because of this condition and have had to apply for disability benefits here in the UK. I did struggle initially to accept it as I have always earned my own money but a friend said to me that I had paid enough taxes over the years and also it was helping me to stay independent - so why not!

If it is being offered, I think it is worth looking into.

Take care.

Of course you should, look we dont ask for this disease. It is incredibly hard to get through everyday life with this. And your working life was cut short due to this, so you definitely should have some financial help. I will say one tip for you, try not to get stressed with the benefit system. Just see it as 'if i get it, its a bonus'. Because you dont want your health getting worse. I do wish you luck, and dont feel bad.

Was the call from someone associated with SSDI? They don't generally call and promote it.

If you feel that it would be helpful to get then I would absolutely apply. Just make sure you go through the proper channels. My parents had a call from a "consultant firm" trying to get them to sign my Dad up for SSDI. They were a scam and seek a high fee off of the amount if they win(higher than what is the norm and couched in the legalese of a loan). They also try to get you to sign up for these bogus supplemental plans. It was a shame and I reported it.

Good luck going forward
