Hi,
My daughter (17) just started taking Humira. Do any of you wear a medical ID bracelet stating you are on this med? Is it necessary? Please advise...thanks!

NO I dont havent for any of my meds, have had crohns 20 years plus. Some think it is a good idea tho.

:welcome: to the forum! Tell us more about your daughters IBD!

I haven't been advised to, but I do wear one. I initially got it cos I was on Prednisolone and didn't have a steroid card for a while. It's not one of the actual medical ones: I got an Italian charm bracelet off ebay and I like it cos a) it was cheap and b) you can add and subtract charms as your meds change :)

I do, I have a Medic Alert bracelet. It was kind of a bribe so hubby did after he had a stroke and was having seizures. I've just renewed for the 9th year so I must think it worthwhile.

I don't carry a Medical Bracelet. I carry a Medical USB Card from CVS. It fits into your wallet like a credit card and stores all your information into a USB slot.

I also plan on getting a tattoo once I'm off the pred that say "F@#$ Crohn's Disease" with the ribbon. That way if I ever get into an accident they'll know that I have it.

I currently wear a USB Medical ID Bracelet.

With all of the things I am allergic to (codeine, ceclor, amoxicillin, tylenol sensitivity, latex), I've been wearing one for the last 5 years at the urging of my mom, an ex-roommate with similar allergies, and my GP at the time - with my allergies, the last thing I need is to find myself incapacitated somewhere and have a well meaning emergency medical worker administer something that will hurt rather than help me.

The front of my current bracelet states that I have Crohn's & Allergies and instructs one to look at the back and the USB inside. About a year ago, I upgraded to the USB style when I started taking Humira; mainly because it contains all of the information that emergency personnel could possibly need to access - my doctors' information, my personal information, my emergency contact information, what medicine I'm on (along with how much and how often), my immunization records, my family medical history, and my doctor appointments for the last year since starting Humira. I also find it to be very helpful when I have an appointment with a new doctor because all the information they could possibly need is right on my wrist.

Im on remicade and dont wear one. Theres no drugs that im taking that will have a major adverse effect if I suddenly stop taking them for more than a day (ie steroids)

If I go into hospital and i cant tell them i guess that within a day or 2 they will have all my notes anyway ( i keep some sort of id on me at all time so they at least know my name)

I don't wear one - although I probably should as I am allergic to dilaudid and don't react well to morphine.....

Medical ID Bracelets

I don't wear a medical ID bracelet for any of the meds I've been on. i do wear one in case I happen to be in an accident and end up in an ER. The bracelet states the following - IBD UC: No Blood Thinners

I am on humira and don't wear a bracelet for my medications, however I have a tattoo of the medical alert symbol and 'crohns' underneath it located on my forearm

I hate having things on my wrists, it reminds me of juvie. I plan on getting a tattoo of vital medical information.

My bro-in-law is a Los Angeles Fire Paramedic and he actually prefers the tats-esp if they are located where an IV is started. He says lots of people forget to wear the bracelets or in case of an accident sometimes they fall off.

Me, I don't have either but know I should-I carry a DPA in my wallet though.

I got a bracelet for my nephew as a gift and he (and his parents) love it. I think the biggest thing that it gives you peace of mind. You never want to think that something bad is going to happen, but certainly it's best to be prepared just in case. I got his from Hope Paige Medical ID, and if you do decide to get one for your daughter, they have some cute bracelets that would be good for a teenage girl, too.

What is your reason not wanting blood thinners because you have UC?
My doc has never warned me against them

I wear one, but it is not a bracelet and its not for any of my Crohns' medications. Mine is a red tag attached to my dog tags (Army style) and is for the blood thinners I have to take.

I use a regular thumb drive attached to my key ring, and I have a file in my phone with my medical information along with ICE phone numbers, and a reference to the online medical records now available.

Do any of you have a medical bracelet just stating you have Crohns? I'm new to crohns and have only taken Lialda to deal with Crohns. Bentyl was temporary ;( They won't put me on anything else to help me but should I just have a bracelet stating I have Crohns in case something happens to me?

Seeing that one day I do get a job again or one day I do get out of the house more again etc........wouldn't having a bracelet be safe to have in case I drop to the floor etc? lol I keep a list in my purse of everything I'm allergic to, meds I'm taking, and docs I have at free clinics etc, hope people would look in my purse if I got too sick or couldn't move and needed 911 lol!

I don't have one. I never thought it was necessary for me. I have thought about writing something in my wallet.
