Thanks guys. :)

No you didn't hear it wrong. I had a fab day, well work aside which took up a large slab of it!

Sarah came home and we all went out for a lovely dinner. My house smells like a florists. I love fresh flowers! :Flower::Flower::Flower:

Dusty. :rosette2:

Hey - happy birthday - sounds like you had a good day and night.

Enjoy and have fun :thumleft::rosette2:

Cooee!...:bigwave:

Well things are chugging along well here. :)

Sarah went back to Sydney yesterday after a two and half week visit and will back again just before Christmas. She has left us with a lasting momento...STELLA!...well for the next couple of months anyway while she is between digs. Hopefully come February she and Nick will have their own place. FINGERS CROSSED! Lord knows I am potty enough without inheriting the title of the crazy cat lady! :yfaint:

Matt is going well, well I think he is...he rarely comes out of his cave for me to eyeball him and I ain't asking what he is doing in there...some things are best left unsaid! :ylol:
On the 1st of December it was two years since he received his diagnosis. Boy oh boy were those first 6 months an awful journey but all has been good since then. Long may it continue! :thumleft:

Now Christmas:
Have I finished decorating...no.
Have I finished shopping...no.
Have I done my cards...no.
Seems the only thing I have been good at is putting the ticker at the bottom of my signature and freaking everyone out! Oh there is one other thing I am good at this time of year...being easily distracted so I don't have to think about all I haven't done. My distraction today was the blue tongue lizard that lives under the washing machine, it is about 40cm long...

Glad everything's going well your way...:ysmile:

And today my daughter freaked out when she saw a little lizard in our house!!! :yfaint:.. imagine if she saw a blue tongue..

 Sarah freaks out when she sees a penny lizard too! She fair screeches the place down.

Actually speaking of penny lizards, I saw the most bizarre thing the other day. There were 4 penny lizards all tangled up and wrestling. I don't know if they were trying to eat each other or having sex! :eek2:

I can't even imagine.
I live in northern Michigan in the USA and I'm telling ya, we are one of the few places in the WORLD where no animal can kill a human. No poisonous snakes, no man eating bears, no bugs that are poisonous. Nothing!
I remember in Florida someone telling me to shake out my shoes just in case there scorpions in them. I about freaked! I'm spoiled rotten.

Now Christmas:
Have I finished decorating...no.
Have I finished shopping...no.
Have I done my cards...no.

Don't worry I have to answer no to all of those as well.

Just bought the tree yesterday and brought it in the house this morning - a 9 foot +/- balsam fir

Oh no...:(...RIP Gerry Anderson, creator of the Thunderbirds...

Best show ever! Absolutely loved it as a kid...actually I still love it!

We're seeing the image of the family huddled in the water beneath the foot bridge in NSW. I'm just curious…who's taking the damn pictures?? Who thinks in such a situation, "hey, let me get out my phone and snap a few pictures of my terrified family?".

I hope things are getting better. We had our hottest summer on record last year. I hope ours was a precursor to yours rather than yours portending an even worse one here!!

That was in Tasmania. If you knew Tasmanian's you wouldn't need to ask that question. The closest I can get to a description of those that live in the apple isle is Trev the New Zealander. Just ask him how many fingers he has. If he says 5 then ask when he had his surgery.

Unfortunately things are set to get worse tomorrow and over the weekend. Ugh! The temperatures are the rise again and the wind is picking up. I just hope the humungous cyclone off WA drops across the red centre and dumps a heap of rain on us.

Dusty. :cat:

:ywow:is this the legendary fan club??
Dusty, I heard you guys are going through a bad heat wave, whats it getting to during the day?

@Catherine - No fires near us. We are up on the tablelands and the town is pretty much surrounded by grazing land.

We are 34 tomorrow, hot for us, but a tad further west and Tamworth are about 41-43 for the next few days.

Everytime I talk to someone not in America I have to pull up my trusty converter. :p I live in Texas so in the summer we call that a break in the heat lol. But I understand if your not used to it it can be unbearble.

They lost homes near Ballarat from a fire which appears to have been started by a ute in harvested grain paddock.

Not looking like a good fire season.

Horses for courses ay?

At least up where I am the heat is dry so it makes even a tad more bearable. :)

Oh my goodness, that's not good Catherine. :(

I feel for you guys down there and other areas in NSW, you have such tragic and devastating fires. :(

just counted em Dusty, 8 fingers and 2 thumbs.

Geez, you know, Dusty, You should come here to San Diego! Weather is great year round.

well, apparently when we moved here in Sept. it was the hottest month here in
years :/ oh well! With the beach 10 minutes away, we have been able to manage!

Oh Trev, I thought you of all people wouldn't succumb to surgery! :yfrown:

No surgery for me, but as you know a lot of Kiwis are migrating to oz but before the fly over there, they have surgery to become a Australian, very simple surgery, half your brain is removed and you a true blue Australian.

Dexky the story behind photos, the five children had been lefted in the care of their grandparents, while the mother attended a funeral in Hobart. The fire started and mother couldn't be back to her children. The grandfather took the photos and sent them to his daughter to show her that the children were safe.

* Your biggest family argument over the summer concerned the rules for beach cricket.
* You shake your head in horror when companies try to market what they call 'Anzac cookies'.
* You know how to abbreviate every word, all of which usually end in -o: arvo, combo, garbo, kero, metho, milko, muso, rego, servo, smoko, speedo, righto, goodo etc.
* You know that there is a universal place called "woop woop" located in the middle of nowhere...no matter where you actually are.
* You have, at some time in your life, slept with Aeroguard on in the summer. Maybe even as perfume.
* You say 'no worries' quite often, whether you realise it or not.
* You understand what no wucking furries means.

I am watching the Tennis!

And that kilt wearing, haggis eating, surly Scot just lost so I am happy! :):):)

Disclaimer: Since I am a half bred Scot I can say that!

I like watching the tennis and since it is the Australian Open it isn't on at some bloody god awful hour!

Well as I have said elsewhere things here are a little difficult at present and my time on the forum will be significantly impacted for some time to come. :(

I miss you guys so much but ya gotta what ya gotta do, ay?

Anyway...

Sarah has moved into a new flat and is now living on her own so she is loving it. It has taken a little time for her settle in but Stella wasn’t settling at all so guess who has inherited a white lab rat for the time being? No prizes!

And while we are on the subject of Sarah, she celebrated her 21st Birthday on Wednesday. She wasn’t home for the occasion but she was with Nick and her friends so that was good. :):):)

21st-birthday-balloon-pink-shimmer-1204-p.gif

Now to Matt. He is travelling along fine, actually away with friends at present at a place called Lennox Head...

lennox_pelican.jpg

...Oh to be there!

But I digress. His hernia has reared its ugly head again. This is the hernia that showed up a few months after surgery and was believed to be an incisional hernia but nothing could be found. He went to the GP last week and he was able to palpate it this time so he is to go for an ultrasound and then back to the GP on March 1st.
Now the thing is, it would appear that it is not an incisional hernia at all but an inguinal hernia. This doesn’t surprise me in the least. He had right inguinal hernia repair done when he was 12 months old and at the time the surgeon said they often use to do both sides at once but that it was no longer the practise as the other side may never cause a problem. I do wonder if the abdo surgery precipitated it becoming an issue but it really is neither here nor there, the hernia has shown itself and that’s that.

I hope more than anything that life is treating my forum buddies well. :ghug:

Dusty.

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time of it Dusty! God bless!

Happy Birthday Sarah! Not sure about Australia but that is drinking age here :)
Jack had double inguinal hernia repair surgery done at 12 months old as well. Surgeon said a lot of times if there is one on one side there is most likely one on the other so while she was in repairing the first thought she would check for another one and sure enough, there it was.
Take care, we miss you on here but understand we are not your whole life :)

We miss you lots Dusty - but take all the time you need !
We will be here when you are able and you will be close to my heart, and thought of often!

Much love!
Don't forget to take care of YOU my friend ;)

Xoxoxo

Happy Birthday to Sarah....:birthday2:

Take care Dusty .... we miss you.

Jacqui drinking age here is 18

 Happy Birthday Sarah

Missing you too  but, you take care of yourself and we'll be here waiting for you!! :ghug:

:soledance: Miss you Dusty!!! :soledance:

:heart:Happy Birthday Sarah!!!!!

Hope all goes well with Matt!! C has had a hernia since birth under his belly button from umbilical cord maybe??? Anyway, no doc has ever wanted to do surgery on it unless it starts bothering him(which it seem to do when he was flaring before dx). Does anyone know what kind of hernia that is by chance?

Yep, drinking age here is 18. I think Sarah has had her fill and is now a dry old argument! Not that I am arguing mind!

Now interesting fact for the day, in case you didn't know Jm...

Baby boys get inguinal hernia's because as the fetus develops the testicles are located where the kidneys are and don't descend until the 7th month. They descend down into the scrotum via the inguinal canal. Full term babies can develop inguinal hernia's but it is more common in premies as the canal doesn't fully close. Matt was born at 38 weeks.

Right side hernias are more than left. The figures are:

Right 60%
Left 25%
Both sides 15%

Look like our boys won the lottery on that one Jm! :voodoo:

Jack was a 40 weeks on the nose. Big giant baby 9.3lbs. However, he was induced as he was sitting on a nerve in my leg that would make me loose all feeling and I would topple over. It would freak people out.

Hope things are going ok for you Dusty! Thanks for the update!

Twenty-one is such a big age in the states…worst headache I've had in my life!! Happy Birthday Sarah:) Late!

It seems inguinal hernia is fairly common. The first time EJ was being scoped, there were two boys waiting for repairs on them in the prep area. Hope it's no big deal for him. I know it'll always be a big deal for mum when her baby is being cut on but he'll be ok!

Sorry about your ongoing issues. I haven't had to face that but I can imagine. Your family is blessed to have you, I'll just say that!

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and words and Sarah's well wishes. :ghug:

It is hard to put into words as they they don't don't seem to do my feelings justification but just knowing that you are here is such a comfort and truly does help lighten the load.

Thank you...:mademyday:

Dusty.

Just wanted to say a thank you to you Dusty for this thread, which i've just finished reading all the way through. My girlfriend lived in Melbourne until she was ten and her family moved over here, I know she wants to move back there at some point so i've been taking in what I can from this boards Aussie members, of which there seem to be plenty. I'm actually really excited that having her in my life would give me an excuse to move somewhere like Oz.

Awww, thanks Jordan. :) And I hope all works out well for you and your girlfriend.

Things aren't settling much here and I miss you guys so much. :(

Matt had his ultrasound on Monday and it has confirmed that he has an inguinal hernia. It is a tad bothersome so no doubt surgery will be looming for him. I know it is only middling in the scheme of things but it does worry him and I just wish it was one less thing he had to deal with.

Sarah is coming home Sunday. I well imagine it is the last hurrah before uni starts in earnest for the year. Sarah finishes her undergraduate degree this year and it seems that a move overseas is still well and truly on the cards. If that is the case then a marriage is looming as well! Matt starts back at uni on Monday and he also finishes his undergraduate degree this year so a big year all round! :yfaint:

I hope you guys are all doing well and remember you are never far from my thoughts. :)

Dusty. :Karl:

Thanks for popping in Dusty...:mademyday:
I'm sorry to hear Matt might need surgery...but he'll be ok.

Hopefully things settle down soon....

Enjoy your time with Sarah.
Take care Dusty...we miss you heaps.

Thanks upsetmom, your kind words are such a comfort to me.

With all that is going on I am finding it hard to focus at times so I end up doing the most trivial things at times...like taking pics of this...:eek2:..oh well, they do say if you didn't  you would ...

Stella the dominatrix...

Dusty.

I can't believe Sarah is nearly done with Uni ! And overseas ? Marriage?!.... Say it isn't so!
You may want to look into buying stock in false eyelashes ! LOL

Thinking of you ;)
