Edema/Fluid Retention?

Has anyone ever experienced edema/water retention along with their Crohn's or Colitis disorder (not due to meds)?

I ask because my doc recently discovered inflammation and bleeding in my colon as well as stomach (erosive gastritis) and I also suffer from chronic generalized pitting edema. My GI doc claims that the symptoms are unrelated but to me they seem very connected, as though they're both symptoms of the very same illness. When my GI symptoms are severe, the edema gets much worse and vice verse

I've been screened for kidney, liver, heart, thyroid and protein issues but everything came back normal. I'm still in the process of getting a definitive dx for the GI inflammation

I have had significant edema at times Crohn's with low albumin (from malnutrition) and also without low albumin when I had an undetected abscess.

In my non-medical opinion, if they've found no other cause, then it's very likely that your edema is caused by your GI situation not being under control. I think it's very interesting that you notice it worsening with your GI symptoms.

I take it you've not yet got a diagnosis? Hopefully when they get your GI issues under control, the edema will improve too.

Thanks for the reply. My doctor was thinking it was going to be an albumin deficiency but my albumin and protein levels were within the normal range. The really odd thing about this water retention is that it's everywhere. I was hoping to find some more people withe the edema issue but I haven't been having much luck so far.
