Hi guys!

I'm new to the board, but I've had my chron's for around 15 years now (will come with a proper update about me in "your story" later on).

I have a question; does anyone of you know whether the uptake of imuran/azathioprine is negatively affected by questran (cholestyramine)?

I'm afraid that if I take my questran together with my other meds (azathioprine, folic acid, B-12 and iron) it will decrease the effects of them.

Grateful for any replies!

My daughters GI told us specifically, when she was on Questran, not to take her medications with it but rather to have a 2 hour buffer between Questran and other meds. She was on Imuran (Azathioprine) and Folic Acid at the time.

Dusty. :)

My Mum has to leave 4 hours between meds and Questran (3 times a day), a problem fitting everything in especially if she gets something else that is supposed to be taken four times a day.
She takes Azathioprine and waits an hour before taking questran then four hours before the next tablets, has to fit in three times a day.

Wtf ! my GI told me nothing about this ....whats the point of putting someone on a heavy drug like Azathioprine when it is not going to be absorbed properly.

I am sure it either tells you in the box or a leaflet in the box (in the UK anyway).

Thanks for the answers all!

On the leaflet it says that it might have negative effects on some medications, not all then I would presume. I am trying to get a hold of my doctor, but since it always takes a couple of weeks, I thought I'd post here to get some feedback on the matter.
