erythema ab igne

just figured out the rash on my stomach is from the heating pack i use to relieve my crohn's pain every night. i seriously want to warn everyone who uses a heat pack on your stomach, back, legs wherever don't use it every night like i did and make sure it is on a very low setting. i'm really freaked out and i am even more angry because i did it to myself. how was i suppose to know that would happen. i feel cheated by life or something. first crohn's. then fibro, then arthralgia and now this. i mean what more can life pile on me. anyway i should probably stop working myself up. note if you stomach ever looks like the image below do not continue with your heat treament. discontinue the use of your heating pads, hot water bottles, even overheated laptops on the legs and seek out a dermatologist.

Yeah I figured that is what it was, I had it a bit here and there but it always goes away , at least for me. I try not to use it but it is habitual now.

i find this so incredibly scary. i'm probably blowing it way out of proportion but it can really get bad for some people :( mines burning and i'm just hoping now that i am getting rid of the heat source that it will slowly fade. hopefully it doesn't cause any trouble with my surgery on the 14th. they are making incisions on my stomach and i don't know if the rash would cause complications? :/

How long have you had this? I dont think it will interfere with your surgery. Did you ask the doctor about the surgery?

For three or four days it has been there and not gone away. I have had small cases of it in the past but it always went away when the heat dissapeared so i thought it was just my stomach being too warm i didn't realize it could be something so serious. i talk and maybe even see my gi doc on monday so i will ask him about it then.

I use a heating pad almost every night and have had no problems. I don't put it on my bare skin though, just on top of my pj's or nightgown.

I have actually has this on my stomache and.back for.about 5 years. I have used a heating pad my whole life. The rash appeared not long after I became totally out of.remmision with my chohns. My dr told.me that it wS.cause by my crohns. That little blood vessels were busting under the skin and appearing on surface like the rash you have. Mh rash is about 10 times darker. It does not matter if i am on heat or not. I have a sisiter in law that has a friend with crohns and he has the same rash. I hope it goes away for you. I know that it can be pain. I also understand needing the heat. The heat helps you relax some. The pain from this disease is unbearable. Take care.
