Good evening my name is mark and I was diagnosed with crohns in 1993. After being diagnosed I discovered the immediate family members that have crohns already in my family. My grandfather,my mother myself and now my daughter just recently diagnosed with uc and possible crohns. I have
Been to vanderbilt, mayo clinic and now Washington university inn st.Louis. I have tried every medication availavble including all TNF blockers and I am getting ready to sart tysabri next week. My daughter was started on humira this week.I've really enjoyed reading your stories and it really helps to know that there are other people out there going through the same things. I am currently on 15 mg of steroids and I have developed adrenal insufficiency from extended steroid use. Im hoping tysabri will doo the trick as this is the last option before my second surgery.

Thank you for listening and keep up the good work it's people like you that really make a difference.

Hi Mark, :welcome:! So sorry our daughter has IBD as well, it is hard enough for us let alone a young child. I too have family members with this disease, so far my daughter is healthy and pray she stays that way. Prednisone is an evil drug, works but causes way to many other problems, including diabetes, bone loss, chest pains, heart burn leading to gerd.. arthritis. I too have had two of the TNF,but I also have had 2 resections. I have tried everything, but my doctor and I agreed Tysabri is not for me. So I rotate my meds, and it seems to help. Depends on the severity of the disease, some meds work great. Glad you are here and joining us!! Lots of great people to support you too!

What a bummer, Mark. I can say that I can relate in a way. My paternal grandfather had a very bad case of CD. We suspect that our father has it, but it doesn't give him much grief. He has had surgery for a terrible perianal abscess as a young man, and has some minor digestive problems off and on. My brother and I both have CD, and one of our sisters tested positive on the Prometheus lab, blood test. Our sister tested positive for Crohn's with the blood test, but negative on the scope procedures. She has had her share of digestive troubles, so she may just be starting up with CD. Inflammatory Bowel Disease definitely runs in families.

You are in the right place. We want to welcome you and hope that you make yourself at home here at the forum.

That is so true when it comes to our
Children. It's hard to watch your children go through what your going through. I have been blessed with a super supportive family and a wife that is a BSN and she h
As been my anchor. Choosing tysabri was very difficult and I would like to hear some of your comments on tysabri.

Thanks mark

Hi Mark,
I hope the tysabri works for you and you can avoid surgery. Welcome to the forum.

Hi Mark and Welcome!

Wow, talk about family history! So sorry to hear you are going thru this and having to watch your daughter go thru it as well. How old is she?

I don't know anything about tysabri, but I hope it works well for you!

Welcome :)

I hope that Tysabri works for you so that you can feel well again without another surgery.

My daughter is 20 and in college but has recently had some extra abdominal issues and is having her gallbladder out Monday.

Tysabri has been used in ms patients and was approved for crohns a few years ago before it was pulled due to side effects. It is back on the market and is at least another option available.

Sorry about your daughter having her gallbladder out. Mine was laproscopic and day surgery, other than bloat , it was a piece of cake. She will be ok, try not to worry ok? :hang:

I am hoping that your daughter's surgery goes well. Like Penn, my gall bladder removal wasn't bad at all. I was on the border of needing to go under the knife though. The surgeon said that my gall bladder was very swollen and diseased looking. It was difficult to remove with the laparascope, and they almost had to resort to cutting me. I'm thankful that they were able to get it with the scope. The recovery was very quick. I had a umbilical hernia repair done at the same time as well. That hurt more than the gall bladder removal.

Hi Mark
