Hallo dudeys,

Quick question. How does fasting affect your crohn's if you do? Or rather, will my condition get affected if i fast for a few hours (for spiritual reasons) but i want to know the health impact (imma see doc hopefully tomorrow)?

I'm just thinking, if in Ramadhaan (the month of fasting for Muslims) whether my condition will get affected and how. Or for those who don't fast, how does your condition get affected when you don't eat for a while i.e from morning till lunch.

How many hours are we talking? When we have a colonoscopy we're not supposed to eat for the day or two before. There are days when I easily go 8-10 hours without eating sometimes too and my stomach starts to growl from hunger but I don't notice anything else

I think about 12hrs or more (from sunrise till sunset and around summer time).

When I am at my sickest I prefer not to eat at all. When I am hospitalized w/ a flare, the doctors sometimes put me on complete bowel rest. And really for the most part I actually feel less belly pain if I dont eat. Of course the problem then becomes weakness. So the answer to your question is that it is fine to fast w/ CD

Fasting is very difficult evan if you have a very normal digestive system its hard on the body no food and drink during sunlight in peak british summer for a whole month...

but it could also be very good for you as it would relax and rest your digestive system and reduce the intake of food

But remember allah didnt want people to fast if you had ill or bad health and as you have a bad digestive system i think its perfectly normal to take your health very seriously maybe try it for a couple of days and if you do get any bad effects stop straight away

Dan- Yep, we're not required to fast if it's a health issue or if we're physically unable to, there are exceptions to every case. There's more to fasting as well, aside from the physical aspect of staying away from food/drink for daylight hours, there's also the moral aspect i.e watching our mouth/language, not stealing, gossiping, bitching, bad mouthing, swearing etc. An there's the huge spiritual side to it.

But Ramadhaan (month of fasting) isn't till July/August time hopefully this year so i've got plenty of time to give it a shot. I hope things with my system will get sorted by then.
