how does someone know if they have this stuff before going to doctor? the reason i ask isd that the outside of my rectum seems to be pussy and itchy sometimes. sorry about that folks, ad it feels diffrent then before although i never looked. no blood, no pain, just does not feel the same. can anyone break this down for me? thanx

Hi Maxi. I would give your GI a call. Even if it's nothing, then you'll know, and if it does turn out to be "something," maybe your quick action might allow the doctors more treatment options?

My abscess started out small and sounded a bit like you described. For a week or two, I just thought it was a hemmie or zit or something. Itchy I don't remember, but I remember it being sore. I went to see my GI when I was sure that it wasn't either of these things, which meant it was a weird combination of red and black/blue, very sore, and looked like I had half a baseball lodged under my skin.

From talking with my doctors and reading some things around here, I understand that there are a wide range of symptoms and manifestations that may not be so straightforward. I think it's worth seeing your doctor. Best be sure!
