So this is embarrassing but not sure where else to turn at this point. I'm just under 2 wks post partum and noticed some signs of perhaps a rectovaginal fistula. I've never had problems with fistulas so maybe that's not what's going on. But I'm wondering if anyone has had a fistula as a result of child birth? I'm petite and my son was 8 lbs 5 oz and although I didn't tear he did require the forceps. Which the doctors classify as a fairly "traumatic" birth since in the process he broke his clavicle and was stuck. I'm wondering if all this could cause a fistula? Or maybe that's not what I'm going through...I can only hope its not but not sure what else could be causing my symptoms

I have only had perineal fistulas, but if you notice fecal matter leaking through your vagina, you definitely need to get it checked out. Vaginal delivery can cause rectovaginal fistulas. Good luck!

Hi Tx,

your best bet would be to go to your Gyn to be checked if you're worried about a fistula or talk to your GI who would know what to look for.

Hi I got one when having my first daughter nearly 15 years ago, the docs think its from pushing too hard, I have had so many procedures done to it that now the only way to get it fixed is to have my whole rectum taken out and given an ileostomy, Iv decided to just live with it, sorry I didnt have better news.
