Hey y'all

I'm 32. Was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis- originally. As it turns out I have pan colitis. Blood and mucous would pour out of rectum like a fountain a couple DOZEN times a day- or it did at one point, as it had gotten totally out of control. I took prednisone for months- then budesonide enemas which were better, when combined with Lialda, and Imuren. Also tried numerous diets which helped not! it was really without hope for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg 3 years. I moved to Spain from the States
got a job here, and live in the Castilla Leon region. Not a good place for great doctors or gi's so I maintain an insurance in the States paid for by mom and dad, and I recently started a new therapy that I had read about on-line. Helminths.
I started it around September/ October- my flare-ups where still on and off. Around December they calmed down, and for the first time in 4 years I can honestly say that
I feel great. I've actually been practically symptom free since mid-december and its now almost june. and I noticed a difference around october- though mild.
I feel great. Except that my pocket book suffers greatly. This stuff is soooo expensive that my parents have to help me pay for it. I'm hoping it'll be an accepted form of treatment and therefor free! paid for by the gov.
Well thats how it should be.
If I can get through August without symptoms I will be a TRUE believer!!! but so far so good, I almost feel like a human again. Thank GOD!

hi and welcome, and thank you for sharing your treatment discovery with us! i hope it continues to keep you feeling so well

but i have to say, i'm one of those who think "ew, yuk" at the thought of parasites inside my body.... however, i totally would try it if my doctors recommended it. the one thing i don't understand.. on that Wiki link, it says the worms actually cause weakness, disease, inflammation and cysts.. how does it work on Crohn's then, to reduce all these symptoms?

hey! Its totally not EW yuk! Its essentially like drinking water- it tastes a bit salty.
Its much better to have a few parasites than Prednisone in the body, and having my bones deteriorate. I've been fighting osteoporosis!!! I'm winning that battle- mostly.

It seems that for Crohns- the helminth therapy is even more effective than with UC.
Its put 70% of everyone who takes it, in remission, and possibly more. I'm unaware of the current stats.

Most doctors wont let you try it- they'd rather have you taking tons of Prednisone.
Plus if they recommend it, they'll feel responsible if something were to go wrong and theyd be sued. Nothing will go wrong though, cuz they're aren't any side effects.
Except for the fact that you feel great again.

I LOVE helminths. If I could drink em everyday I would. They only way you know they're in your body is by taking a blood test.

The worms themselves are actually pig whip worms- they don't cause any negative side effects, are non-transferable, and only stay in the body for a short time, hence the necessity to drink the stuff every 2 weeks. they are absolutely harmless.
