Hey all............

I've got Prep Day on tap for tomorrow, and my poison of choice is GoLytely. I have heard absolutely nothing about it........does anyone have some insight? I think it has an evil cousin, too, called HalfLytely.

First colonoscopy ever, so I'm really unsure as to what to expect. If there's ever a group of "old pros," this is it!!!

I wont lie, golytle is rough, but really cold seems to easist to get it down. Anyway the prep is the worst. The test itself isnt that bad and this test can answer alot of questions. Anyway best of luck.

Golytely is my least favorite prep. To me, in brutal honesty it tastes like seawater. Im kind of surprised docs are still recommending it, with half lytely back on the market (it's half the amount of liquid as go lytely) and the Miralx prep. It's tough but just try your best to keep what you can down, and don't worry if you don't find every last drop. Good luck!

I'm drinking it right now....it taste so bad...taste like sea water... I'm on my 2nd cup....don't know how I will finish the whole jug.

I'm really struggling to drink it and I'm shaking. My doc said I don't have to drink the whole thing.

Go buy a straw, right now. Like now. The less gets on your tongue the better you'll tolerate it.

cut up lemon in small pieces and keep a piece between your teeth while drinking through thestraw.Drink rapidly as you can.also if you have any hard candy or mints they might help.Avoid red and purple colours.
I had to use peglyte same stuff as golytely. since it is safer for someone with renal failure. The other preps can cause further damage because of the magnesium content I was told.I had asked for Picolax but he adamantly refused to Rx it.
I had to take 2liters peglyte last night and two liters this morning for afternoon scopes.
I could not manage the last two glasses (500ml) which caused instant upchuck,
but things were running clear anyway.
I had upper endoscopy as well as colonoscopy this afternoon.
Multiple biopsies were taken.
He treated an esophageal stricture but I have to have surgery for a colon tumour.,that he found.
Good luck
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Agreed!! I was told it was easier mixed with Crystal Light flavoring. Not so much. The volume of liquid was too much for my stomach and made me sick. I was then told I would be in "twilight sleep" and may be semi-awake for the procedure and able to watch on the monitors. After some serious discussion about their job duties and what my idea of the definition of sleep was, all was good. Next thing I knew was how warm the blanket in the recovery room was. Glad they saw it my way.

ok, now 4 1/2 hours until my appt and my stomach is churning and loud. I think golytely is causing it to get upset. I stopped eating around 11:30pm. Don't know what's wrong with my stomach.

Can you describe your upset in more detail? A bit of discomfort is normal expecially because it is intended to force waste out of your body. But if it is something severe that you have never experienced before you should phone and inform your GI's office.

If it's tolerable; this is normal. It pushes your digestive system really hard so if you have any inflammation it puts you in a fair amount of pain.

We all wish you'd asked us sooner so we could have told you not to get the GoLytly! :)

My last prep I used just 3 bottles of magnesium citrate. Tastes like salty flat-ish sprite. not bad cold.

I had no choice ,the GI insisted on peglyte.
We are not allowed to choose which prep, that is the prerogative of the GI.
Magnesium products can be bad for patients with renal issues.
I certainly would have preferred Pico Salix., but the GI adamently refused to prescribe it on account of the renal problems it can cause and already I have a degree of renal failure.
