gross question about pentasa

I was diagnosed on the 22nd of august and started Pentasa that day, 4000mg a day, and the urgency went away, and instead of 4 or 5 loose stools a day i am generally down to 1 or 2, or mostly formed.

my only problem is that my poop is now green, like canned green-bean green. and sometimes there are little bits of celery green in it. the consistency of my loose stools is similar to seaweed now, the right color and everything. and there is alot of mucus in it, but ive had alot of mucus in my stool for a while now.

i mean, i've had green poop before, but now its every single bowl movement. and its EXTREMELY green.

is this something i should be concerned about? or does anyone else that takes pentasa have the same thing going on?

oh, and i also want to know if its normal to be able to see all of the little white balls everywhere in my stool, (like, the white balls inside the capsule)?

i know that the little white balls in your poop is completely normal for this drug.
have no idea about the greeness... not something i've experienced before.
are you eating to many canned green beans??? lol

Hi there.

I'm laughing as I type! You will find that poop has many different shades for some of us. The way you described the "green" hues gave me the perfect visual. Many a time I have pooped those same exact colors. For many days at a time. Sometimes it changed to orange, then back to whatever "normal" is. There really isn't any normal, is there? I've had the "green output" so often I stopped trying to figure out where it was coming from.

I'm glad you mentioned the white pellets. I've seen those too. I think mine were from Entocort. Pentasa dissolves farther down at the end of the small intestine and into the large intestine. Sometimes not all of the pill gets dissolved - it happens with all the 5-ASA compounds. Hell 4g's of Pentasa is 8 of those big blue horse pills, it's a wonder they get dissolved at all!

Yes, the little pellets are totally normal. I've been on pentasa for a couple of years now; I like to think of my poo as "speckled."

Do others not get the Pentasa granules? They're much easier to take than the 'horse pills' - however it is a little like trying to swallow cat litter - and tastes much the same (I guess)! And, yes, lots come out in my poop too! X.

When I saw the title of the post, I thought I would stop by to reassure you that the little styrofoam balls in your poo are perfectly normal. Just weird! Color is optional.
