Has anyone had mebeverine (colofac) and it's worked?

My GP seems convinced that mebeverine will help with my abdo pain despite me already trying it a few months ago and having no joy. The GP said to keep taking it and I will get some relief from it so dutifully I'm trying it again but it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. Does anyone take mebeverine and it actually works for them or is this just a lost cause?

I don’t have IBD but I have been experiencing upper abdo pain from what I think is a feral gallbladder. Anyway, I was prescribed Mebeverine (Colese here in Oz) and for all they good they did I might as well have been popping Smarties!

I was prescribed Colafac after I was first diagnosed with IBS. It never seemed to make much difference, not surprisingly as I didn't have IBS.

I only got a couple of prescriptions and then gave up on it.

Yeah I've given up on them now because they didn't make the slightest bit of difference. I haven't been diagnosed with anything yet, think the GP is at a loss on how to treat me.

I was prescribed Colofac. Nope. No help. Also tried buscopan - nope! They're IBS medications and I know some people with IBD do find it gives a little relief, but it's very short-lived. But for me, it doesn't even touch the pain.

Yep I've tried buscopan as well and it also had no effect. I'm stuck relying on paracetamol and hot water bottles at the moment.

Paracetamol is kind of effective for me. I try and avoid co-codomal unless I'm feeling really, really bad because of the fact it can constipate. I tried taking colofac today and buscopan and it is one of my bad days - and nope, I can confirm it hasn't helped me either.

Has your GP asked you to try peppermint oil tablets too? I can't because of GERD and they make me feel extremely sick - but again, they didn't really help either, like most IBS medications. :(

I can't take peppermint oil because I also have pretty bad acid reflux. I have co-codamol tablets but my bowel has been pretty inactive over the last few days so I wouldn't want to risk bunging myself up even more.

I tried Buscopan more recently, and if anything it made things worse. I had a phase of taking more of it (I think you can have 8 a day) and then stopped completely. All my bowel issues went away; for about a week.
