Hi everyone,

As you have prob notcied in my past posts, i have an anal abcess (my first in my 15 years of crohns) and i want to get rid of it completely WITHOUT surgery and i'm desperate for a solution. Has anyone had meds that made it completely go?? and how can i prevent them for returning?? any other tips in how to clean or dry them out?? Mine is weeping slowly and does get quite small but never leaves. Had it for 3months and im so over it. I also bath in salt bath 2 to 3 times a day.
I've noticed in some cases certain meds have made it rather small but that they have to continuosly take them in order to keep it under control, is there a way around that. The less meds im on the happier I am.

Please any tips on getting rid of this thing completely will make my day.

Thanks guys

When you say abscess do you mean in the sense of a random bubble of pus, or do you actually have a fistula? - a tract from somewhere internal to the outside world near your anus...

Looking back at when I 'found' my first abscess and what the surgeon(s) said, basically you wont get just a random abscess near your bum. It'll be an ulcer which will keep being infected by fecal matter from the inside. The only way to stop it is to heal/seal the internal source. Anal abscesses usually occur between the two sphincter muscles, but not always so, and either by surgery to drain it, or by bursting, break through the perianal skin. You then have a fistula. The only effective way to heal it is to allow the internal tracts forming the abscess, which may have many branches like that of a tree, to drain freely. To do this they insert a seton, or other drain, in the fistula tract to deliberately keep it open and not heal on the outside, until the internal branches are all healed up. Then they can remove the seton and fill the tract with fibrin glue and so hopefully stop any infective material from entering the tract, and eventually heal with your own tissue. If the internal tract starts near the outside world the surgeon may simply cut through the skin and 'lay it open'. Healing then takes place as for normal wounds. The conclusion being unless you are very very very lucky that without surgery you will get the abscess/fistula back.

Yes, i had a perianal Fistula that Drained in command with a heating pad and baths.

I was able to drain it fully daily and later healed completly with Remicade.

Surgery is risky because you may hurt the Spinxter and then u will have accidents.

I had surgery for a perianal abscess. Thankfully there was no fistula and it healed fine.

Hi guys,
The doctors have only called this an anal abcess not a fistula. My description of it is this a large pimple like thing filled with pus.
Kasper87, should i sit on heating pads??? will this help?? i do salt baths as well.
I'm wondering if the is a topical cream to be used along with the oral meds.
Thnaks guys

does the anal tear plus fistula always happen with flair ups? They have me on flaygal. But the pain always seam to be deep inside. Sometime its goes all the way up to my belly. I hate taking metronidazol. I fell like i eating a chevy. Mic

Mic,

Not everyone with Crohn's gets fistulas (if that's what you are asking). You can have flare ups without them. But I do know what you mean about the pain being deep inside...like sometimes it's shooting through, but dull and steady.

As far as the flagyl goes, hang in there with it. I know it sucks, but it really has been a wonder drug for me. I used to hate it, but I have learned to love it because it's the only thing that keeps me from being just a mess down there (no other way to put it, really). The side effects eventually wear off as your body fights off the infection...at least that's how it seems to me. As for the "eating the chevy" thing (lol), you kind of get used to it and don't notice it so much after a while.

Flagyl worked for me up until a stage.

After 10 years, and numerous drains later, major surgery was my only option.

This doesn't seem to be true for everyone, but for some of us, it's the last resort.
I found Infliximab (Remi to my U.S. cousins) the only drug that was most effective. But, in my case, I had to be taken off Infliximab after 1 and 1/2 years.

Hi kiwi68. Welcome, and please add a post to the your story forum to give a little background info....

What kind of diet helped you?

I've had two anal abscesses that cleared up with just being lanced by the doctor. Theres was at least 5 years between them so it wasn't the first just reforming.
I've had another recently that self drained but my GI has put me on cipro as it is continually draining pus and blood and he wants me to see a surgeon as he thinks there could be a fistula there now.
i don't think meds will help without drainage as the antibiotics don't seem to reach inside the abscess. Both mine were lanced in the doctors office and it was relatively painless - certainly compared to the pain of the abscess and the relief is huge once its done.
Ha, just realised this is a very old thread. Sorry........
