Hi can anyone make me feel better about the fact that my doc has put me on to Prednisolone??? Have heard so many horrors about the drug that I am a little worked up about it.

Basically I was diagnosed with Crohns in my ileum in Feb, up untill yesterday I had been on Budesonide but it has sadly stopped working. There was talks of azathioprine but yesterday my consultant decided that he would try me on a 10 day course of 40mg of prednisolone instead and was talking like he thinks more areas are infected and therefore is sending me for an MRI scan.

Is this drug really that bad? And what lies ahead of me if it has spread to other areas?

Thanks, from a very depressed Crohnie :(

10 days isn't bad at all, most people seem to have had issues with long term pred. I recently had 1-2 week course myself and other than getting a little bit spotty had no issues whatsoever!

However if you are concerned or indeed experience any adverse affects, speak to your doctor who will be happy to help.

Best wishes with it, hope you feel better soon!

I've been on pred many times for different flares.....dexa scan last year was FINE....I haven't had any problems other than the munchies and moon face (which goes away!).....

Eating everything in sight and not sleeping or better seemingly not NEEDING sleep for me.

The drug is loved and hated. It can do wonders but long term use can cause some major issues.
I've been on it for the better portion of 3 years. But you should be fine with 10 days.

Ya 10 days is nothing. You may experience sweating, anxiety, racing heart but you shouldn't start retaining water and get the dreaded "moon face" or stretch marks or anything like that because those are more common for people who take it longer, like many months to a year or more.
