Good morning all,

I am a worried dad - I have crohns, may have had symptoms as a kid, then nothing until 17 yrs old.

My daughter threw up in the car yesterday for the first time (she's 3 1/2). Seemed o.k. right afterwards, good until she was sleeping last night. She threw up twice over night, now seems o.k. No apparent cold/flu symptoms. For anyone who has a child with Crohns, what sort of symptoms had you think it wasn't a cold/flu?

Thanks all in advance...

I understand your worry. Little ones can get sick like that from a virus, just eating something that doesn't agree with them. My son first had the stomach flu at that age and it sounds just like what you are describing and we knew it was the flu because everyone else got it. I don't think you need to worry. Keeping an eye out for symptoms is smart though considering your history. For my son the signs were weight loss. From age 9-10 he lost about 3 lbs from 10-11 he lost another 3 lbs. His growth slowed down as well but he was still getting taller. He was tired, had a mouth sore that wouldn't heal but other than that it was subtle. Read a bit about vitamin d and autoimmune disorders. We now give our daughter vitamin d to help protect her from getting crohns. It won't hurt her and the information on vit d and crohns is pretty amazing. Good luck I hope your little one stays healthy.

Thanks for the response. Weight loss isn't an issue for her - she's almost 4 feet tall and 46 pounds at the moment! Her growth and weight are not stunted. Thanks for reminding me to look for the obvious!
