hi im my names gemma im 20 years old and new to this forum. i got diagnosed with Crohn's disease when i was 15 years old i have suffered bad with it had to leave college never been able to work always in and out of hospital. anyway i have a question for you.. i have had abscess' in bum a few times but ive always gone into hospital an had them removed. I had a drain in me for 6months when they took it out i was left with a small scar at the top of my right bum cheek. i woke up on monday in agony and i had a lump the size of a golf ball where my scar was my bum was really warm too so straight away i thought infection or another abscess i can not walk or sit down its really painful i didnt want to go into hospital again. Ive been taking a high dose of erythromycin which helped it go down a tiny little bit last night i decided to put some betnovate cream on it i woke up this morning and its alot smaller but now looks yellow and has a head on it like a spot/pimple but big lol the yellow bits really soft and squishy but around it is still hard. A friend told me to pop it should i? or not because its my scar where it is . or should i just keep having salt baths taking antibiotics and using the cream and hope it goes away on its own? please give me some advice will be much appreciated :ysmile:

Hi Gemma and welcome to the forum. it sounds like you've had a really tough time. I've only had experience with external anal and intra abdominal abscess so i can't really help you but lots of people on the forum have had the same thing as you so I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice soon.
I would think you shouldn't pop it, let it come out on its own however I understand that if its really painful you may just have to do it. Perhaps go to the hospital and have it done properly by a doctor and then if necessary they can put a proper drain in it. If you do do it yourself make sure you do it with a sterile needle so that you don't introduce more infection but I think the ER is the best place to get it done or your local doctor.
Salt baths will help it come to a head and soften the surrounding skin to make it easier.
All the best,

thanks it eventually popped i was having salt baths and putting steroid cream around it and within two days it come to the surface like a spot as i went to get into the bath it burst everywhere lol not very nice at all but i felt alot of relief the moment it did.

Can you make an appointment with your doctor to check it out to make sure it's all drained? I would hate for it to fill up again and for you to get really ill. I know it's awful going to the doctor and to the hospital but abscesses can cause the surrounding flesh to die and it's better to be super, super safe!

Hi Gemma
Do go to the dr before it turns into a real problem. I know it feels heaps better now, but get it checked to be sure you haven't developed a fistula.
