Hi all, today marks the start of week 4 on pred and I have today reduced to 25mg (I started on 40mg)

My eating is beynd control......i am continually eating something and what concerns me is that because I am on a low residue diet I am eating nothing but rubbish ie sweets instead of fruit

so far I have only put on a couple of pounds which I dont mind as I had been under weight efore startin thiz dose of pred. I am wondering though when I should expect my appetite to return to normal, now that I am halfway through the pred programme should my appetite decrease again and should I expect to put on much more weight??

Any advice / shared experiences would be greatly appreciated

I've just gone down to 7.5mg and been eating everything and anything since I was at 30mg... no signs of slowing down here! Have put on 4kg in the last month.
After the first week I was able to eat peeled apples, oranges, chocolate (4 jumbo bags of maltesers during the Olympics  ) and a whole heap of roast pork and veg! Have you tried introducing anything else into your diet since you started?

Also, when I've been on Pred in the past my appetite has stayed up for a little while after I stopped taking it.

Thanks lost kitten..... kind of comformting to know its not just me! I havent introduced anything new as yet but my dietician has been on the phone today and has said I can try a few feuits / veg so im really looking forward to trying something healthy again!

The last time I was on pred I put 2 stone on but I honestly dont remember eating just as much! I hav also stopped smoking in the last month which is prob makin me more hungry too! Heres hoping we can loose the extra weight as quickly as it went on :)

Im on prednisone now and I think being able to eat is such an amazing feeling coming from active flare up where I ate very little. Im making a consious effort to eat healthy things that I know during non flare up time dont aggravate me, as I want to build stength and health so that as I taper off I am stable and dont relapse! Im drink fresh veggie juice every day, lots of pureed veg soups (like butternut squash!), eggs, chicken, fish, sheep yogurt (I cant do cow dairy), rice bread, rice noodles, almond butter, some very well cooked veg (steamed broccoli is as brave as Ive gotten), oatmeal and lots of herbal teas. so, high protein, low fibre, fruit and veg in soup or juice form, gluten free grains. hope this helps!

Tina congrats on stopping smoking!! I also am just getting to the major appetite stage again (week 3 of a six week course, currently on 15mg) and it's really hard when your body is just craving, craving, craving.. I find I don't feel "full" after eating so I'll eat 2 or 3 meals in a row. That's good you've talked with your dietician about getting a bit of variety in, I'm trying to be as healthy as I can be while the Pred has me in temporary remission but it can be so hard. Good luck! :)

Without a doubt a side effect of prednisone is the appetite. I know mom thinks that I eat like a pig. The key with Crohn's is obviously eating more frequently smaller portions. Also making sure food is chewed completely before Swallowing. I'll be tapering from prednisone 40 mg since June so I don't know what the appetite will do to me. :(
